2. Mass Effect [Download]
Thanks for posting. I never got around to this series, and figured a deal would come around soon. With the $10-for-$5 amazonlocal deal that came up last week, this was just too good to pass up.
Bonus: By the time I'm done with these, ME3 will be in the bargain bin as well :)
Don't forget to check out the DLC for both games:
Mass Effect:
* Bring Down the Sky - might be free on the PC, but it's very worth picking up, and it can have effects later in the series.
* Pinnacle Station - Nice to have, but feel free to pass on.
Mass Effect 2:
* Kasumi - Stolen Memory - Nice to have, has some minor effects in 3. Worth while IMHO.
* Overlord - This should be got, it does have effects in 3.
* Lair of the Shadow Broker - Must have IMHO.
* Arrival - Almost a must have, but very worth it.
All other DLC is either included in new copies or is weapons/appearance upgrade. Personally I wouldn't bother with those, but it really is personal preferences.
sucks for PC... absolutely no controller support and Bioware refuses to add it... better off gettin it on consoles
Is there any way to add these to my Steam account when I purchase them like this? Regardless it's still worth it, I just like to keep track of all my games in the same place...
@mthodmn101: Or better off using a mouse/keyboard. Dunno why that sucks, if you want to use a controller then yea, get it on a console.
Tho odd thing, occasionally when loading the Xbox controls will show up before the m/kb overlay takes over.
@mconrace: Yeah, there is an option in your library to add non steam games. Once they're installed just point steam to the game .exe.
@apocello42: All that does is create a shortcut in your Steam library to it. i think he wants to know if he can add the code to his library so the game can be installed via Steam.
I dunno if it can be done. I tried that with World of Goo on Amazon and it didn't work for me.
I already have, and am 75% through ME 2 w/ the digital deluxe. Is it worth it to get ME1 or is this going to be like when I went back and picked up Oblivion recently and realized its just to old and meh to hold my attention?
@squishemquick: Yes that's exactly what I was wondering, and apparently you can't. This deal has to activate through Origin, EA's Steam competitor, so they specifically don't want you to be able to activate on Steam.
@mconrace: Origin blows. Suck it EA!
@captaintr1pps: Lazy port? ;)
Also, ME1 doesn't really feel that dated. The game plays pretty differently, and you have an entirely different brain-meltingly boring method of finding minerals/supplies.
Origin works fine for what it is. It's not as polished as Steam, but it's not bad enough to prevent me from purchasing games that use it (Ubisoft, I'm looking at you). Running ME2 through Origin vs Steam actually adds cloud save support, which would have benefited me since I lost my saves during a system rebuild.
sometimes steam offers them for $5 a piece. -In case you miss it on this deal
@apocello42: Mass Effect 1 is awesome, and you should play it.
@mconrace: No. With many titles that you bought on disc, but happened to be on Steam, you can go to Steam, click on the Games tab at the top, and enter the product key that came with your physical copy in order to fully import it into Steam with full support. I just bought this deal on Amazon, clicked "View My Product Key", copied-and-pasted that in to Steam, and it was not recognized.
Short answer is, usually you can import games, but not with this deal, for some reason.
As @mconrace stated, you can make a shortcut in Steam if you like all your game titles to be listed in one place, but that doesn't include full support like auto-updating and Steam Cloud.
@apocello42: Yes, pick up ME1. I got ME2 free when I bought Dragon Age II (It was the least they could do), and played it through. Then I went back and bought ME1 and play a character through 1 & 2 and noticed new NPC interactions in ME2 that wasn't there with my ME2 only character.
Also, ME1 is pretty dam good too :D
@mthodmn101: I mean if you got it for PC you're most likely going to use a Keyboard and Mouse anyway. But I can see where you'd use a controller on some games.. this I wouldn't want too.
DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT BUY these games. [Keep it legal!]
Theres no sense in purchasing them with money to support Bioware- the trilogy is over, dead, and let me reiterate on that DEAD part.
If you want to support game developers taking the easy way out, and executives choosing to slice material as DLC rather than deliver on their promises, GO AHEAD AND PAY FOR THESE.[Keep it legal!]
@rockmasterflex69: Seriously? Recommending theft? If you want something that is only $12 and you're not willing to pay for it, then why bother? Here I was thinking this price was a "steal". Sheesh.
@rockmasterflex69: wow... just wow.
@mthodmn101: sucks for pc? Hmm, better visual capability (1 and 2 do not require a powerful rig), check. Faster control response and accuracy, check. So, where exactly do consoles beat PC for these games? I use an xbox controller for some games (dead space, for example) but for ME...Mouse and Keyboard are far superior options.
@apocello42: I played ME2 first also. Loved it so much I went back to ME1.The gameplay is different but the changes possible to ME2 made replaying them both multiple times worth it.Much can change in the basic ME2 setup.Choices from ME1 actually have REAL, worthwhile impact on ME2 and consequently, ME3. Only reason i am not buying this is because you can NOT activate through steam, but can still buy the games on steam. Origin is garbage.
