dealsgoogle chromecast is available again w/ netflix…

Got mine yesterday (ordered from BB). The Netflix code worked and I already had a Netflix account. The Chromecast worked flawlessly and I was able to switch between my iPhone and Kindle Fire while streaming Netflix to my computer with no issues (they become quasi remote controls once you send the feed to the tv). You need the TV and the computer/ipad/phone etc. to be on the same WiFi network for it to work and it won't work in most hotels or other places where you have a signin popup for the WiFi.

looks like it is now backordered as of 12:49 MDT

Still up as of 2:45pm EDT, but it's now listed as back-ordered with delivery in 1-2 weeks. I can live with that.

I cancelled my Amazon order which was also for $35 but which didn't include the free Netflix offer. I'll end up paying about $2.50 in sales tax by buying at Best Buy, but
I'll end up with three months of Netflix, which I've never used, in return.

Edit: Gosh, @zippythepinhead, you beat me to it again!

@jayhawk46: Thanks for the update and the info. I'm moderately technologically challenged, so it's very helpful to me when folks explain what they've done to make it work.

@conanthelibrarian: It's still showing back-ordered, though, with a delivery date of 1-2 weeks. Amazon has it also on back-order with no indication of a delivery date.

@magic cave: I'm getting "sold out online" and "add to wish list" I would of ordered one on back order as I would like to get one for a gift.

sorry, no idea how to copy and paste my screen but this is the message I get

Sold Out Online
Add to Wish Lists
Add to Wish Lists

@conanthelibrarian: Yep, I see it now. If I use the direct link I go to a page that just shows it back ordered, but when I look around I don't see any way to order it. (That's the same page I ordered from just a few minutes ago, so I must have squeaked into the very end of the offer.)

If I just go to BB and do a search for Chromecast, I get the "sold out online" page you mentioned.

Still at Amazon for $35, back-ordered, but no Netflix offer.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I'm not sure I would trust Google even with this.

I got mine last time this was posted and thought I missed the Netflix deal. I was surprised to get an email saying that I actually did get that deal. so YMMV

amazon will send you the Netflix offer.....

you will get a separate email a few days after order is placed saying:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your recent Chromecast purchase. Your purchase has qualified you to receive a 3-month Netflix gift code. Your code will be emailed to you 5 days after your Chromecast ships.

Thanks Best Buy!!! You confirmed my order 3 times in a row then cancelled each a week ago when you were out of stock. Then you run the off again...thanks for offering me a waiting list!

@garroyo2765: Here's what the Amazon page says now:

Netflix Promotion No Longer Available
Please note that the Netflix promotional offer (which was available in limited supply) has now ended. Customers who ordered their Chromecast prior to 5:30 PM PST on July 25, 2013 will receive a Netflix gift code via email within 5 days of their product's ship date.

This is only $5 more than the ridiculous apple mini dvi adaptor. I've bought about 12 of those pieces of crap because they only last about 3 months. Very happy I'll never have to buy one again.

Once this has Amazon Video On Demand, I'm in

Do you mean Amazon Instant Video?
Why wouldnt it play that?
Especially if you can view it in Chrome Browser?

@danieleg: I believe they mean playing Amazon Instant Video from a phone or tablet. Unfortunately, Amazon has yet to release an Android version of Amazon Instant Video, even though it's available on Google TV an iOS.

NO, it will NOT currently do Amazon Instant Video by casting a browser tab from your desktop. The same goes for ESPN3. The problem with Amazon is that it uses Silverlight for its display on the PC, and Google Cast does not support the casting of Silverlight video. The problem with ESPN is that its video opens in a popout window that does not have Google Cast controls on it, so there's no way to send it to the ChromeCast.

Believe me, I've tried to do both things. They don't yet work. But I have to say that I LOVE my ChromeCast! It's a very slick piece of technology. And I'm sure that the Amazon Instant and ESPN capabilities will come along before to long. Remember, this thing was just released 2 weeks ago. And other content providers have already announced upcoming support.

@divingdancer: Thanx.

Then it won't do anything more than my Roku XD already does?
I guess I need to cancel my order at Amazon, it's scheduled for delivery on the 21st.

They dont charge til they ship.

Anyway, theres a chance the Netflix offer may be renewed later (even 1 month is better than zero)
