Girlfriend has this sound bar for her TV (Panasonic g-25). It does the job if you don't have the space or the inclination to set up a surround sound system. She got it free with the purchase of her TV from amazon last christmas.
what frequency does te wireless operate on? will it affect my wireless router? I got my dad a surround sound system with wireless rear speakers and you cant use the internet...nor the cordless phone in the room. lol
It is 2.4ghz. There is an owners manual linked on the woot page. It says to keep wireless LAN and cordless phones(2.4ghz) at least 2 meters away from the sub.
i would not get imo sacramento frys had 2 of these on discount
I'm really tempted to buy one of these, as I've been waiting on a good deal for a soundbar/subwoofer set.
However, the frequency worries me. I keep my router on my entertainment center next to my tv so that I can use a direct connection on my gaming consoles. I'm wondering how much interference might be created between the sound bar and the router.
I'v wondered about sound bars for several years; I'm happy with what I've got on the TV - could I use this with my computer? I spend a lot of time listening in front of the computer - could I use a sound bar instead of my Altec-Lansing speakers? Any thoughts?
I've never been impressed with any sound bar I've heard.
@zschiffman, @rmuzzy: I have a Panasonic HTIB with wireless rear speakers and it doesn't seem to affect my wireless network at all. Supposedly it chooses a channel that is not being used. That being said, YMMV.
I have the VSB200 soundbar and I have to say it is better than my TV speakers...but only just a little. One contributing factor might be that I can find no information on what inputs the bar can handle, so when I use it with my PS3 I leave it only on defaults and do not select the higher level frequencies as possible audio inputs for the bar. Do any of you know which inputs the bar can accept properly without incurring damage?
@superloud: That's good to know. Thanks for that info. Now my only other question, if anyone can answer it, is how will this work with my other gaming consoles? It only has the one sound input for a blu-ray player. Do I have to plug in one console at a time into it? Or by having everything run through the tv via hdmi or component cables will plugging the sound bar into the tv just work?
Vizio VSB200 Multimedia Speaker System- 2.0-channel - 40W (RMS) - Refurbished $59.99. http://www.buy.com/prod/vizio-vsb200-multimedia-speaker-system-2-0-channel-40w-rms/q/loc/101/listingid/79155995/211827709.html For those who may be looking for something a little cheaper without a subwoofer. It says sold by TigerDirect so you can check it out there as well. Sorry, but I can't comment on quality or sound or anything. Just lookin' out.
Note this is an older model (the newer is the 520). Amazon has several well-reviewed, newer, unrefurbished sounderbar systems for ~ $220 (Sony + LG models come to mind).
For what it's worth I would recommend purchasing a Sony HT-CT150 for $220 through Amazon. It's a 3D capable hdmi repeater with audio pass through sound bar, although the subwoofer is not wireless it's really nice! Best buy has it for 300+ I believe, good buy in my opinion; http://www.amazon.com/Sony-HT-CT150-Sound-Bar-System/dp/B003C1AO2I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1313770814&sr=8-1
@rmuzzy: can someone clarify on rmuzzy's question?
Costco currently has a Vizio version of this that also includes two rear channels that run off of the wireless sub. It's the same price as of yesterday. I cranked it all the way up, and for a small, quiet room, it would be decent. Probably perfect for a house with teenagers, as it cannot be turned up TOO LOUD, but gets loud enough for StarWars battle scenes to feel good. If you want chest thumping power, this is NOT for you. If you want rear-channels, this is not for you. If you just want better sound than you now have on your TV, and you don't have a Costco membership to get the better version, this is a good deal.
To answer the question regarding the single HDMI Input. This device along with all other 2010 and 2011 Panasonic audio products utilizes what's called HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel). Some 2009, almost all 2010, and every 2011 TV offers this feature. It allows the sound from whatever devices are connected to the TV to travel back down the HDMI Cable to the sound system, eliminating the need for an additional optical cable. However, if your TV does not have the ARC feature you more than likely have an Optical output, which is what you would use to send audio from other devices from your TV to the soundbar. It also passes 3D and the subwoofer shouldn't mess with your wifi system due to sub system using similar tech used in Panasonic phones to adjust the 2.4ghz signal regularly to minimize or eliminate interference. Hope this helps. (Yes, I work for Panasonic and this is such a good deal I just ordered it)
