I own this set; it is excellant. I paid a little less two years ago, but I would happily buy it again if I run it over with my car.

This really isn't a sale, you can always get it for this price.

1. Makita makes professional grade tools and are overkill if you aren't using them daily.

2. This set contains the much weaker 1815 rather than 1830 batteries. This is the difference between 20 minutes of work and an hour.

I bought this to replace my Black and Decker when it burned out and use mine regularly. I'm not a professional, but an avid DIYer and I work it pretty hard for a regular joe. I have not had any problems in the two years I've used it, while my last drill didn't last anywhere near that long. I would agree with @willmar6 in that I would like the batteries to last longer, but the charger works quickly and it is clear to know when the batteries are charged and ready for use.

Bottom line, I would recommend it.

The batteries are small, but they charge fast and are light. This has pros and cons for sure. I think 20 minutes is an under estimation but it is fair to say that this is tool is only really suitable if you can keep your charger on hand.

@gavininalbany: How have these batteries held up over those two years?

I bought this set when they came out 4 years ago and they are still working fine. The batteries lasted long enough to get through the day, unless I am using hole saws. Only recently has the battery life started to diminish, but only a little. Plenty of torque to snap a 3/8 lag or your wrist if you aren't paying attention. A great set that will last several years of daily use.

@orionantares: They have held up pretty well, but at this point I would say they are holding about a 65% change. I am planning a garage remodel this summer and expect the battery packs to be spent after that.

I also own this set. Replaced an older Makita drill. I love it.

Not saying this isn't a great set, I own it, but isn't $199 the standard price on these?
