What a deal! In for two...
Good deal. Remember it was the .11 drives that had the issues, these are the newer .12 models. That said, I'm still a little wary of 1tb+ drives, except for the higher end ones (Caviar Black and the like). They may be decent, and mostly reliable, but 1tb is a lot to lose.
For 50 bucks I'll take the risk of it being a bad drive. In for 1
Just the deal I was waiting for! 2 headed my way.
I have a 500GB seagate 7200.11 that has been working flawlessly for 2 years now. Remember hard drives are sensitive mechanical devices that work with very tight tolerances. If it looks like your packaging has been dropped, kicked or dropkicked(ty UPS) be aware this may help the drive fail prematurely.
That's an awesome deal!! I've been waiting for something like this! In for two... Thanks for posting this one!! :)
All hearsay but I read a post that strongly suggested paying extra for Fedex shipping from Newegg. I won't bore you with the details but it triggered a light bulb in my head. Overall, the packages I receive through UPS arrive in much rougher shape (dented, squashed, dirty, etc.) than my Fedex packages. Now I always pay the little extra for Fedex (3-day?) for anything I don't want dropped or kicked (or both!) on its way to me. One of the things I like about Newegg is that you have that choice.
Perfect timing! In for one to make an external hard drive.
Thanks to everyone posting helpful comments!
Thanks great deal in for 1
In for two. A dull nickle a gig is a damn good deal!
i cant seem to get the promo code to work...
wow.. they took the code away... sale ending 6/7/10 huh
Promo dead.
Done Deal Pormo Code Invalid.
Yep, deal appears to be dead. Looks like they fibbed on the 6/7/10 date :(
Extremely high failure rate on these... Check the feedback on NewEgg and decide for yourself. Many 1-Star ratings, more so than other models...
I just called Newegg and I was told the promo code does not start until Noon Pacific Time. They say that then the promo code will work.
Cool. Thx Chas.
I have used seagate drives for a while and not had any issues with them at all. When I built my new PC that is what I put in. Though its a 500gb, its the same model, and I have had ZERO issues with it. I'm an avid gamer, so I use and abuse my equipment and again, ZERO issues with it. Helluva deal, get it while you can.
@femaster: $49 I'll take my chances. I back everything up. My latest backup drive is a Verbatim Simple Tech 1 TB external with a seven year warranty. That is not a typo. I was thinking about extending it by three years and then, of course, trying to get a new one in nine years 11 months. LOL, they might just have to give me a 10 TB SSD. Whatever, it cost 100 bucks and in 10 years they'll replace it with something that costs less than 100 bucks.
Oh yeah, back to the Seagate. Meh. Sometimes you get a good drive sometimes you don't. I have a WD Raptor, 500 GB Seagate and Maxtor. They all work just fine. The Raptor is coming up on four years. The Seagate has a three year warranty. Backup and and your fine for at least three years.
@jman420: a few dozen people are saying the same thing about their Western Digital's. And then a few others swear by Hitachi's, Samsung, etc. AFIK all manufacturers ship DOA drives. Even someone who works with a lot of hard drives may keep records and prove that one brand is more reliable. Small sample -- it's just a statistical anomaly. Those guys (the big hard drive manufacturers) are will not release the data necessary for definitive answer. In fact, if they had such data wouldn't they be shouting it from the rooftops. Very suspicious...
Strange, I saw this at 4am EST this morning, used the code and it worked fine.
Though I almost canceled the deal and went for the 1TB Hitachi Deskstar daily deal that's going for $60 with free shipping, only because it has fewer 1-star ratings than the Seagate. But I let the deal go through.
We'll see. Seems like a luck-of-the-draw scenario.
Promo Code EMCYTYZ44 doesn't work. It says: Sorry, the promo code EMCYTYZ44 you've entered is invalid.
@tinkerman: I wouldn't pay extra for FedEx. In this case I think it was $14. That is about 30% of the purchase price. No thanks. In any event, I think that shipping is another one of those luck of the draw things. My UPS guy is almost on a first name basis with me. I just received seven packages from a warehouse in Michigan -- HT system with speakers, sub, Oppo BR and sub. All of the boxes were immaculate -- no punctures, smashed corners, etc. of all things, the double boxed the sub. Everything else was single box -- luck of the draw.
@anddreus: it is not 12 noon PST. See above.

I show one of our agents has sent a request to investigate into this issue. The feedback has not been given yet. Once we get a feedback, we will update you via email. thank you in advance for your patience.
Maybe if we complain enough, they'll speed up whatever process they're supposedly on ;)
Someone new send them a link to here!
@trekker1: Yeah, the day after tomorrow you will get an e-mail telling you the deal has expired, but Newegg is so pleased to provide you with excellent service, blah blah blah, see their FAQ if you have any questions, blah blah blah. I've never had a sale code work at Newegg and I am on their freaking spam list.
@da5id: Weird, this is the first one I've had not work :D
@tinkerman: I work for fedex, trust me it doesn't matter....
THIS STINKS! The 1st time I ever tried using this and it dosn't work. Glad for the few people who got it to work, but mad like everyone else, this will be a negitive for them I hope. Everyone complain maybe they'll learn a lesson. (boughtful but wh knows)
Sorry, the promo code EMCYTYZ44 you've entered is invalid
Com'on people, move along... deal's dead. Move along... there's nothing more than a dead deal to see here... move along.

@supercheapwebhosting: blah blah blah, see above by me
Yeah, I just called.. They said they ran out of funds for the deal to allow the promotion to continue. So its not coming back. Bad luck for a bad drive. Ah well.. Just wait a few more months for the prices to come down a bit, i suppose.
You are on a mission.
Haven't you posted the same information over and over? I hope people either listen to you or you figure out that they are not.
@azscott: I got screwed buy those drives after I bought 11 of them for a company I did work for all but 2 had issues, I'm just trying to save some one else's face.
I have gotten many pm's thanking me so some people care, that I'm trying to help. There are no ads on that site. So I'm not trying to get you to go there and click on an ad. I'm just telling it like it is; that right now is not the time to buy those drives, and basically to do research before u buy anything. I got several non perpendicular Seagate's and have had no problems at all. I have had 2 WD's dive on me one under warranty, shipped me a new one easy process. another they gave me nothing cause it was an OEM. Lot of good that did for me no help.
I think its almost obvious when u see a drive or anything for that matter at that good of a deal and its not a refurb then whats the catch, ya know.
anyway have a good one.
I just called them back this morning and complained about the service (or lack thereof) and not getting their code to work. They gave me a drive at $79.99 and refunded $30 after I placed the order. Did this on June 7th at ~10:00 AM EST.
