In case you aren't aware, Prime is normally $70 and gives you free two-day shipping or $3.99 over-night shipping on any item. No need to meet the $25 quota for FS. :D

$79 value

I need to go find that old post by @unclefrog where I can get myself an EDU email address...

[edit] I swear It was on an old deal about free Google Voice for Students (before it was free for everybody), but http://deals.woot.com/deals/search?q=Google+Voice only has 4 hits; nothing there.

vote-for1vote-against

@perkalicious11: oops. I thought it was $70. $79 is even better!

vote-for6vote-against

I'm a student of life. does that count?

vote-for2vote-against

@kylemittskus: definitely! I only know because I've been debating. @lavakinga almost talked me into it at $79, but I procrastinated, and lookie what you found. Good work, sir!

@grandizer74: you can be if I find that old @unclefrog link where anyone can get an EDU email from ...Australia? just by signing up and asking for one. ;)

vote-for10vote-against

can't find the old thread, but you can sign up here for a free australia.edu email address:

http://mail.australia.edu/userhome/signup

[Flibberty Gibbits] yes, free fast shipping on all my text books this year!
[wedit]

vote-for3vote-against

@perkalicious11: Do it! Do it! Here...have just a little taste. I swear you won't get hooked ;)

With the amount of stuff I order (and the family), I come out ahead. Just ordered 3 hardbound, hard to find books last night. One comes tomorrow. the other 2 will be here on Wednesday. Free.

What's up with the popularity algorithm? The mystery box deal has 5 votes in 5 hours (although it disappeared) but mine has 8 votes in 32 minutes but is not popular...

vote-for11vote-against

Here's some of the language taken from the "Amazon Student" terms & conditions (http://tinyurl.com/24ecza6):

"We may ask you to furnish documentation supporting your eligibility. If you do not provide documentation indicating that you meet the eligibility requirements above, you may be required to reimburse us for benefits you received as a result of your Amazon Student membership."

Be careful that you don't use if for a year then have Amazon back-bill you after you can't prove you were a student.

I was in the middle of a one-month free trial of Prime and have been loving it. This is an amazing deal!!!!

vote-for3vote-against

@fref: I agree with your excellent advice. I just wonder how, legally, they are able to do that. Ask afterwords for proof for benefits already provided... no clue. +1 for you sir/madam/horse (whichever you are).

vote-for1vote-against

hmmmmm I wonder if I can add this on to my current prime account. I have an edu addy from my alumni association, it was how I joined FB before the hordes did.

vote-for2vote-against

This sucks!!! I just purchased Amazon Prime 2 months ago for full price!!!

vote-for0vote-against

Amazing deal. Absolutely Amazing. Got hooked on Prime when they offered the 3-month month trial when it first started. I have literally received some products the next day. If you are an Amazon regular, this deal will save you tons!

vote-for1vote-against

Thanks for sharing. This is awesome. I just signed up for Free 1 year Amazon Prime membership.

vote-for2vote-against

I already have a Prime account, is there a way to add my .edu address to the account and get the deal??

vote-for11vote-against

ATTENTION PRIME ACCOUNT MEMBERS!!!

I believe that if you sign up for this deal, you will receive a prorated refund for your current account that you paid for and this one will be good for the year. If you have any problems, email Amazon. It should work just fine. :D

vote-for1vote-against

I signed up and the timing could not have been better! My Prime membership was about to expire and I was debating whether to renew or not.

vote-for1vote-against

So I just graduated. Do you think this is close enough to still being enrolled? I don't want to use this for a year and then incur charges for anything I had bought.

vote-for0vote-against

Fantastic find, thank you!

vote-for2vote-against

Continuing education pays off again!!

vote-for4vote-against

@kylemittskus et al. Since my Prime membership was set to expire in six days anyway, I went ahead and signed up - the offer was added to my current membership, but only to one year from today (i.e., it will expire on July 12, 2011, instead of July 18, 2011, like it would have when it renewed). I don't know about any rebate or anything, but then, what's six days of Prime actually worth? ($1.30, for those wondering.)

Also, for everyone no longer in school, as long as you still have access to your .edu e-mail account, you're golden. All you have to be able to do is click a link in the e-mail they send you for verification. There's no way they could check whether you're actually still enrolled or not without violating a ton of different laws.

vote-for3vote-against

@k1avg: it's always nice to have a wine-loving law student around. ;) That was my guess anent the verification.

vote-for1vote-against

You are definitely posting this to the right crowd, ie. Woot! because amazon just bought them. Good Job finding this!

vote-for1vote-against

@armagedon: Thanks. Glad everyone is cashing in! I did and I'm excited. The last (and only) trial I had was 3 months.

vote-for1vote-against

Dang! This is awesome, but it's giving me an error when I try to sign up.

"Our apologies -- an error occurred while processing your information. It's not you, it's us. Please try again by completing the form below."

It keeps saying that and I've tried it a few times already :(

vote-for1vote-against

Great find! I just completed the registration process.

Thanks fellow Wooters!

@kin869: Try a different browser and clear your cookies.

vote-for1vote-against

Keeps telling me my Boise state email is invalid! BS! :(

vote-for2vote-against

well im trying to do this i go to Austin Community college and everytime i put my edu email it says "Please complete all fields and re-submit your information.

E-mail is not a valid .edu address."

anyone getting this probelm?

vote-for1vote-against

@claudicina: If it's not .edu, it won't work. Or maybe Amazon hates Idaho. ;)

vote-for1vote-against

@kylemittskus: Thanks for the advice! I switched over to Firefox and it worked!! Opera was giving me trouble for some reason...

vote-for1vote-against

@euclide: Clear cookies and change your browser.

vote-for3vote-against

@kylemittskus: Confirmed you can signup even if you have a Prime account already.....I got a small refund (mine was pretty close to its yearly renewal...and I would have bee fine with it adding a year on the end but I did in fact get the rest of my paid subscription back (just got the email) and a year as added beginning today.

I can also confirm if you've shared it with family members like I have it will not remove them.

Thanks OP!

vote-for1vote-against

@ kylemittskus i tried that with firefox and IE and it didn't work

vote-for1vote-against

@euclide: Clear cookies? Use another computer? Call a witch doctor? I don't know my friend.

vote-for5vote-against

I am already a prime member and I just graduated from college so I am out on this one. But this is great for anyone that does a lot of shopping online. I have probably saved over $150 more than my $79 fee. But don't think everything is free two day shipping or 3.99 one day shipping, this only applies to items shipped by amazon and not every store that sells through amazon. It is still worth it though.

And those thinking about signing up with a fake/ Australian .edu address in the terms it states that is only offered to US colleges and you may have to show proof. On most sites that is an empty threat but it may not be with amazon and don't forget they did just acquire Woot.

vote-for1vote-against

gonna tell some classmates, it worked for me and I'm using firefox. It gave an error the first time but it said to hit the link again. Thanks a buttload :D

vote-for1vote-against

@claudicina: makes you wonder how many alumni from rival schools work for amazon, considering where their corporate offices are that isn't a huge stretch. I wonder if it would reject Western WA Uni too based on that, theory.

vote-for1vote-against

@kylemittskus: It's an edu address. And anyone that hates Idaho has obviously NEVER been here.

vote-for1vote-against

@flashkill: it is only for Amazon. People who sell via Amazon are not affiliated with Amazon and thus, Amazon's promotions do not apply to anything that each individual seller sells.

Prime works on everything sold by Amazon, though. It will also work on some items not sold by Amazon that are fulfilled by Amazon. These items are sold by another seller, but somehow, Amazon has a hand in it.

vote-for2vote-against

This whole Amazon buying Woot thing is having some very interesting benefits.

vote-for1vote-against

thanks a ton! My email from my old community college was still valid so wooo free amazon prime.

on another note, I'm curious if there is a check in place to prevent multiple accounts from using the same .edu email. maybe I'll have my friend try to sign up using mine, and see if it still lets it validate properly.

vote-for3vote-against

From the T&C (http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1000522721):

"We may choose to extend this free offer for more than one year"

Sweet!

vote-for1vote-against

Awesome deal! Signed up. I'll probably let me bro know about this!
