With each passing day, I regret buying my MicroSD which was "on sale"
Will probably be in for one out of self hate

vote-for20vote-against

Whats the reliability of gearsx? I've read some bad things on woot before

vote-for7vote-against

I've bought from gearXS before; the service and prices were good.

vote-for42vote-against

Because of the shipping not getting a combined discount, I am out on the 8GB class 10. $15.96 subtotal for 3 PLUS $11.96 shipping. Must be shipped taped to half gallons of milk...

vote-for4vote-against

@id6klub: Packing peanuts, you don't want it to get cracked do you?

vote-for5vote-against

@spacemonkey6401: for ~$12, that's enough packing peanuts for a herd of traveling elephants

vote-for10vote-against

Ground Shipping: $14.95
BWAHAHAHA, no thank you.

vote-for3vote-against

Was looking to buy 5 of the 8gb SD cards for my digital photography class at school. Price was right, but shipping was $14.95. Have to pass on that one. (Wouldn't 5 cards fit in a small padded envelope?)

vote-for5vote-against

That shipping kills from me buying multiples but I still might get a 16gb micro.

Does the class matter for things like cameras, phones, psp?

vote-for4vote-against

@nullx42: Where do you live? Shipping to Southern Cali is $2.99

vote-for5vote-against

@brandon2802:

The class is a statement about the speed of the card. If you're going to be using the card in a device that reads/writes a lot of data all at once (HD photography/video), you need to get a higher class. I've always heard that Class 6 is the lowest that would be appropriate for HD video, but some people use Class 4.

(The problem is that these classes aren't really well-tested or regulated, so it varies based on brand)

vote-for4vote-against

Just placed an order for one 16gb SDHC class 10 card, and the shipping was only $2.99. I live in Texas and my total order came out to $10.98 - so unless they are charging shipping per unit ordered, that $14.95 for shipping is bogus.

Another plus is that you can check out with Paypal, so while these are generic cards to begin with, I'll definitely be running a speed test on it to make sure it's actually class 10 and not a class 4 with a fancy sticker. And if it's not, it's easier to rectify getting my money back with Paypal :)

Hey Jumbo@woot.com I have a coupon. This website will not accept it or give me a box to enter it. I tried no luck. I thought it included "sponsored deals"? Thanks

vote-for5vote-against

@markmc27: woot coupons are only good on items BEING SOLD BY WOOT.
@danbooke2001: paypal is a PITA. If you just use a regular credit card for purchases, and the item in any way does not live up to the claims, call the credit card company and dispute the charge, and you're done.

Gearxs.com...NEVER AGAIN! Finally got refund for the microfiber sheets I ordered over a month ago that were never shipped. There scam is to order a tracking number from shipper but the shippment never seems to actually get to the shipper. This went on for a month before I got resolution.
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.

vote-for7vote-against

@kamikazeken: Glad to hear it wasn't my imagination running amok.Hard to understand why they are allowed to continue. They should be banned from all Woot sites as well as eBay.

vote-for6vote-against

I have a theory why companies charge so much for shipping.

The 32GB version is $22.99 plus $2.99 s/h. If you buy two, the shipping is twice as much. So why not sell each for 25.98 with free shipping?

The answer is because if you return the item, very few companies will refund the shipping portion of your purchase so once they ship it out, they are pretty much guaranteed to earn the $2.99 less their actual costs of shipping.

If they are also selling on eBay, the additional benefit of doing this is to avoid paying eBay commissions since shipping and handling is not part of the sales formula.

vote-for4vote-against

It's hard to believe this company is still in business and Woot deals with them. If you love aggravation this is your company. \
Later in the posts you will probably see gearxs try to contact me and see what my problem was...Way to late to rectify !!!!
Your just throwing your money away....Check out the return policy ,,,Have a nice day Gearxs. AWFUL

vote-for3vote-against

I tried to order 6 of the $2.99 8 GB cards. Shipping was just just as much as the cards were. So now I know why they are so cheap, they charge $18 to ship something that will cost them $2.

vote-for5vote-against

@cengland0: Just a quick corrective note: eBay's "final value fee" is calculated on the total price including shipping. It is true that, years ago, shipping was not included. Due to rampant abuse (of course), that was changed. Ebay's buyer protection will even refund the original shipping charges. That happens only if a complaint is filed with them, though. There are sellers that do not offer shipping refunds under normal circumstances. There are also a ton more that offer free shipping, so that's not as much of an issue. For the most part, long-gone are the eBay days of buying a $100 item for $3 + $97 shipping.

vote-for2vote-against

@cengland0: If the item arrived significantly not as described, FTC regulations require them to refund the entire purchase price, including shipping. One can file a credit card chargeback or Paypal dispute if they don't.

As for eBay commissions, eBay has charged a final value fee on shipping since June of last year. It costs the seller the same amount to list an item as $10 with free shipping as it does $5 with $5 shipping.

vote-for2vote-against

@tljx: "sell" instead of "list"-- only because Ebay tends to offer waivers (more often than not) of listing / insertion fees for auctions using Free Shipping.

vote-for4vote-against

@tljx: Are you sure about the FTC regulations that you quoted? So let us work out this scenario. You order a class 10 SDHC card and you get something completely different like a battery instead. Do they have to give you a refund? Nope. They can demand that you ship the wrong product back and they will then reship the correct item to you.

I spent 13 years working in the credit card industry and part of the dispute process dictates that you must attempt to work out the problem with the merchant PRIOR to putting the item into dispute. Most credit card companies will still put the charge into a dispute status but cannot charge back a merchant until you have done your due diligence. If it's a MOTO (Mail Order/Telephone Order), the dispute process is more relaxed. In those cases, if the merchant can show that you did receive a product, the disputed amount can be considered valid and taken out of the dispute process. Cheap items < $20 may just get written off for simplicity sake.

vote-for4vote-against

Not understanding the upvotes. They are getting a -1 from me just for the fact that they have "Class 10" in the description, but Class 4 Micro SDs in the picture.

vote-for3vote-against

-1 Supertalent ON their webpage does not list Class 10 as an option.
Verbatim from their page: - High-speed class ratings 2, 4, and 6 available.

Picture is the same, of course that could just be due to marketing stock photo's. However most companies would want to advertise they have Class 10 product as that seems to be the premium speed etc…

This could be a case of false advertising. And given previous horror stories with gears could have reasonable credence. ymmv.

vote-for6vote-against

If you're really concerned about gearsx, meritline has these same cards with free shipping for $9.50 (8GB), $14.95 (16GB), and $27.95 (32GB) for the SDHC. Not as good a deal, but Meritline is a great company, I've dealt with them many times and the one time I had a problem (they shipped me the wrong item), they sent me a replacement and let me keep the incorrect item as well. Shipping times are slow, but the customer service is great. Worth a little more for peace of mind in my book.

vote-for2vote-against

I bought 3-8GB cards to use in my camera. Totaled at $20.xx which isn't terrible, but not a super deal anyway.

vote-for4vote-against

@nullx42: GearXS is terrible, avoid them like the plague.

I ordered a CLASS 4 16GB microSD from them a couple of months ago, they sent me a CLASS 2. When I contacted them about it, they said I had to do an exchange and pay the difference for an upgrade to CLASS 4... total BS. Not only that, I had to pay shipping again even though it was their mistake! I honestly think the whole thing is a scam.

vote-for3vote-against

Well darn. I need some micro SD cards and i had hoped this was for me. But between the jacked up shipping costs and the scams I guess I will give them a pass.

vote-for2vote-against

I've only done business with GearXS a few times but it's always been a positive experience. Always got what I ordered in reasonable time. People reporting some scary stories here though!

Yes the micro SD's are class 4. Though they may exist, I have yet to SEE a class 10 micro SD card for sale anywhere. I imagine they'd be quite expensive.

The speed is important for TWO reasons. The one that's often cited is "if your device writes a lot of data fast" like video, and this is true. The OTHER less-mentioned side is when you have been out shooting all day and take the card to the computer to dump it. Class 4 (and especially class 2) takes ages to dump a full, large capacity card. I have a pair of class 4 16gb SDHC cards that take about 25 minutes to dump when full. So if you're in a hurry, you will appreciate the class 10's when you get back to your computer.

Be careful about the device you use, some support HC (4gb+) but still have a limit, my camera ignores cards >8gb.

vote-for1vote-against

also a followup on shipping, just to test I put a pair of 32 gb SDHC's in my cart and went to check-out. The two cards together will ship for $5.98 ground. That's a lot less than several people above are indicating, I don't know how they're arriving at such large shipping charges. (order total $57.16 for 64gb of flash shipped) And they appear to charge that one flat-rate shipping charge for the entire order? If you're seeing more, how are you doing it?

vote-for3vote-against

also if you don't care about the speed, the "midnight" deal at BEDeals (www.bedeals.com/) is selling a 16gb micro sd (class 2!) for $10 shipped.

vote-for2vote-against

@virtual1one: ' And they appear to charge that one flat-rate shipping charge for the entire order?'
Not so..... The description clearly states that each item will incur a $2.99 shipping charge.
Super Talent 8GB Class 10 High Speed SDHC Memory Cards – $3.99 + $2.99
Super Talent 16GB Class 10 High Speed SDHC Memory Cards – $7.99 + $2.99
Super Talent 32GB Class 10 High Speed SDHC Memory Cards – $22.99 + $2.99

vote-for2vote-against

@cmak73: They pay people to troll Woot and upvote their crap.

vote-for3vote-against

@brandon2802: Class (speed) definitely matters for certain functions, such as recording video. Check your device's user manual.

vote-for2vote-against

The microSD 16gb shows 8.99 but goes to cart (and bills) at 9.99

vote-for2vote-against

Hello @paulw75:

we fixed the priced on the 16GB Micro SD card.

vote-for3vote-against

Looked good at first, but I can find better on amazon

vote-for4vote-against

I purchased a class 10 16G and 32G card from GearXS about 10 days ago. Received them on St. Patricks day. Not disputing other's experience, but I got what I ordered, for a reasonable price.

vote-for2vote-against

@virtual1one: Would that work for viewing videos on a tablet? Or does the data transfer speed affect being able to watch a video? That's what I am shopping for micro SD cards to do. Thanks!

vote-for4vote-against

Hello @outdoorslife and all Wooters

we just got confirmation from Super Talent they updated their website and Class 10 card & the images shows @ http://www.supertalent.com/products/sd_detail.php?series=High%20Capacity%20SD%20Cards

Thanks again for the support

GearXS Team

vote-for3vote-against

Yep, $12 shipping for 4 SD cards is ridiculous...no purchase here.

vote-for2vote-against

Just bought 2 16GB SD. Shipping was around 5 dollars. Don't know why everyone elses shipping is so expensive. Maybe you should move to the corn fields in Ohio where I am :]

vote-for2vote-against

@danbooke2001: What kind of software do you use for a speed test?
I wanna do that.
Could you post the results of your test, We would ALL like to know!
Thanks!

vote-for4vote-against

I have more than once had PayPal tell me that they would not pursue my complaint because I couldn't PROVE the (untrackable) package wasn't delivered (despite the fact that they seller couldn't PROVE they ever shipped it) or because the seller sent me a product, whether or not it was what they described.

On the other hand, I have never once had any credit card company refuse a dispute, for any reason.

PayPal is the pits. I have seen many people online claim that PayPal gives them some recourse, but that has never been my experience.
