Seriously, why would you get a 720p 600hz display, this makes no sense.

Opps, you're right. I thought it was a 1080. Should of read the fine print.

Most HDTV providers only stream 1080i so this TV would be give you the best possible picture while watching 1080i television. Comcast and most others that I know of stream at 1080i or less.

@penpenshogun: Well, all plasmas are 600hz, I believe. Second, we have a 720p 50" plasma and we couldn't be happier with the picture. This discussion/argument has come up many times, when people post deals to 720p plasmas, and the people that don't have them say the suck, and the people that have them all insist that the picture is fantastic. Really, it is fantastic and nobody that buys this TV will have any complaints about its sharpness or clarity. I've compared 50" plasmas of the same manufacturer side by side, one 1080p, one 720p, and they looked the same, to me.

why would u not get a 720p?? its cheaper then the 1080 so if u are tight on money then its a good buy. i have 3 tvs a 50in 3d plasma 720p a 32 samsung lcd 720p and a sony bravia lcd 1080p 40in the plasma has much better picture than either of the lcd. my bravia was the best 1080p tv 4 years ago on the market and the samsung 720 plasma is a much sharper better pic.

I'll throw in my 2-cents and say just this past Friday sniffed out and outstanding deal at our local Target. There was a 51-inch Samsung 720p plasma on clearance (unopened) for $299.99. I defy even the snobbiest TV snob to say that's not an awesome deal. But price aside, I maintain that the average TV watcher could barely tell the difference between a good 720p & 1080p TV. I've tested this with my own family/friends in the stores and people often pick the 720p picture as "better" than the other choices right in front of them. Have some fun and try it with your family/friends.

The 720p plasma from Samsung does have a great picture and if this is in your price range, you won't be unhappy with it. Compared side by side with the 1080p plasma though you will be able to see the difference. Especially on a white screen. The lines aren't quite as sharp either. This is a good deal on a 3d tv though.

@oraclehcr: Yes it is a 3D also with 2 pr. glasses. Besides the picture will only be as good as the source anyway I reckon.

Not making any judgements, but just as a comparison, this 50 inch screen has the same number of pixels as the 3.5 inch screen on my phone.

There's a formula, and I don't know what it is, but at this size and resolution, if you're farther than maybe 10 or 12 feet, you won't see pixels. Closer than that, you will see the lines separating everyone of those fat pixels, and with pixels that are twice the size of a 50 inch 1080p, you will definitely see the difference inside of around a 10 foot range.

@czupik, that is not the 3D model, the 3D model is PN51E490.
