Kids WILL tend to wander off, that's not something any amount of parenting skills can completely eliminate. But on the other hand I think a lot of today's moms aren't taking their responsibilities seriously and are looking for outs and shortcuts. This could be one of them, IF used wrong.

I very much doubt ANY parent can honestly say they've NEVER had that mini-heart-attack loss track of their child for a moment in public. This would be nice for that rare time it happens, just so long as it's not constantly being relied upon as a substitute for diligent parenting.

Watched my mother cure "child wandering" when I was a teenager with younger siblings. The first time they do it....you let them wander off...but follow them from a few aisles away in the store.....keep it up until they realize they are alone and think they are lost. When they start to cry.....go swoop them up. My younger bro and sis NEVER wandered off again!

@webgenie: Yup did the same thing with my daughter in the supermarket. I went outside and watched her from the window. The look on her face as she looked around and realized that I wasn't there was priceless...never saw her again. Just kidding!! But anyway I went in and got her and I never had that problem again.

If my kids can't find me, they march to the store manager and have me paged. I guess it's good they don't get scared, but sometimes I wish they were...

This does not get very good reviews on Amazon.
