Thanks! Laughing at all the people who think getting a 12 month subscription for $49 on E-bay is a deal...

vote-for4vote-against

I clicked the link to check the best buy terms. That says you have to purchase a console to get the $20 off. Is it just that the link is bad?

vote-for6vote-against

Good find and just in time. My live is about to expire. :)

vote-for3vote-against

Just renewed for my son right on his Xbox system thru microsoft it cost me 39.95 for the year...Same thing as this right here...Took me less than 5 minutes...Not sure what the difference is...

vote-for1vote-against

So do you have to purchase a console to get this?

vote-for0vote-against

Can we stop participating in an ancient fanboy war and find out if what @mrbassman and @yukiari are saying is true?

vote-for2vote-against

@chemical1happiness: A lot of the time when Microsoft does those deals, they have it set for an auto-renew, so they can then bill you the full $60 after that one year is up, instead of you finding a better deal

vote-for13vote-against

@mrbassman @yukiari @monsterdude

No, no console purchase is needed. Simply take it to the register and ask them to input the SKU number you get via the text and it rings up the discount!

Confirmed working fine by the guys over at cheap ass gamers

my XBox Gold renews automatically every year for $35. I'm not sure how I managed that deal. Anybody else?

vote-for2vote-against

@qporscheq: You probably stacked a deal from a while ago? I don't know, but pray it never stops :D!

vote-for3vote-against

Worth the cash. However, Best buy does often have these kinds of deals - buy a game, get year of live for $40, etc etc. So if you pass on this, don't think you're going to miss out forever. However, for those looking into this - much better online experience than any other system. Really promotes community play. Fun as hell. WORTH DA MONEY.

vote-for2vote-against

@anamurias: Read the fine print... It is a coupon deal you have to present the text coupon.

vote-for3vote-against

anybody know the maximum limit to buy?

Allow me to clarify auto renew with those not aware.

Auto renew happens when you sign up for live through xbox.com and input your CC number, or sign up for a deal through the xbox itself. The problem is it automatically BILLS you once your subscription is up. They do email you to notify if you have a 3 month or 12 month before they bill you, but not a 1 month. THIS CAN BE CHANGED FROM THE WEBSITE. Go to xbox.com, click My Account in the top right, in the middle of the screen you should see Automatic Renewal (On/Off), if ON you can click the word ON, here you can change it to off, hit submit/ok, it will show many promotions to try to keep you on it, just hit ok or submit until this same page says Automatic Renewal Off.

The good thing about these subscription cards are they do not have an auto renewal. You can stack these up to 3 years too! When they run down, they just stop live. The problem comes with the deals. Don't sign up through the xbox or xbox.com if you dont want auto renew.

@swarmer: One thing to note is that Microsoft disables the auto renew button every so often depending on your current membership and purchase method (i.e., through a promotion, etc.).

While I have sometime been able to switch auto renew through the website I have also been forced to call. I had to call last month to cancel the auto renew since I no longer had the card they had on file.

vote-for3vote-against

@jyoz22: You can cancel via the website only if you live in certain parts of the US. If you do not however you can change your billing information for your Xbox live account on their website to Chicago, Il and the option to cancel via website will become available.

vote-for1vote-against

Damn. I just renewed my subscription last night.

vote-for2vote-against

This will enroll you in the XboX Live text alerts, which claims a maximum of 2 alerts per month. You can also always text STOP to unsubscribe. GREAT DEAL!

vote-for1vote-against

Yes, boex37 is right.. This is a "nice" feature that microsoft added recently. I personally had to call them up last night just to turn off my auto-renewal.. The guy at the other end was very nice though, especially when I asked "Why is it so f**king hard to turn off auto-renewal now?". He answered with probably one of the best responses... "Honestly, I have no clue. It was much more simple to let everyone do it themselves".

I think we can all agree though that the REAL reason why it is how it is so that people will hold it off until it's too late... BTW for the record, if you got auto-renewed and didn't want to be, if you call fast enough, they usually refund you. My father had to do this once without TOO much hassle.

But thanks OP! This is perfect, the cheapest I found a 12 month Card online was at Overstock.com for about the same-price+shipping! I made a new account for myself just yesterday, and bought the $1 free month they always offer you (MAKE SURE YOU TURN AUTO-RENEW OFF)

5 Simple Steps -

1. Go into Best Buy B&M
2. Pickup a Xbox360 Live Gold 12 month card
3. Walk up to register
4. Give sku - 3866248
5. Pay $39.99

vote-for1vote-against

@boex37: You sir, are a genius!

I never even thought about jurisdictional differences.

vote-for1vote-against

worked for me. Not sure why people are saying you need to purchase an xbox 360.

vote-for1vote-against

This definitely works! (You do not have to purchase a 360, just need the SKU #) I bought one today! With $20 off and a $30 Am Ex rewards card, bought a 12 month subscription for $10! BOOM

vote-for2vote-against

I did this yesterday after seeing this.
Worked just fine. worker just typed in the SKU that was texted to me.
All I got was the card, no other purchase was needed.

vote-for1vote-against

Wish I would have seen this before. I am ready to jump into the Live world (had my xbox only like a month)....and the $2 for 2 months on my dashboard was tempting me

vote-for1vote-against

You can get the two months for $2, and then enter the code on the 12 month card
