Your first thought was correct - way too pricy for ebooks.

I'd be willing to pay that sort of price if they really leveraged the capabilities of the format.

For example, I'm not really interested in all the ebooks for $60.

But I'd spend that much in a heartbeat if I could get the whole set with a bunch of really useful metadata, like an indexed and crossreferenced wiki. Tap on a character's name and have the option to read a wiki page on them. I think Kindle was supposed to have some sort of "X-Ray" feature like this but I haven't read much more about it.
