Mehh.... nothing good.

If you buy from REI, you can get a free return no questions asked once the glasses wear down or break.

But at REI you pay twice as much.

vote-for2vote-against

That's a slight overstatement.

At REI, if you are a member, you get a refund at the end of the year on all non-sale items. This helps offset the markup.

The small markup is well worth it when you consider that you can wear a pair of pants for hundreds of trail miles and return them if their zipper fails three years later.

None of the sunglasses came close to 78% off! The most off RETAIL is 60%. Not a great deal.

vote-for1vote-against

@jsgeg perhaps the 78% off pairs are already gone...

Just buddy up with somebody who works for Sunglass Hut or Oakley...you get get them SUPER cheap that way. The markup is a minimum of 50% FYI.

If you've gotten hundreds of miles and three years out of a pair of pants, and you return them for a broken zipper, you might want to check your moral compass.

vote-for1vote-against

actually, that is the way REI works. It is a good system. If you have a pair of anything, and something goes wrong, they replace. What is morally wrong with that?

vote-for1vote-against

there is a difference between something wearing out from use and something breaking. If something breaks (like a zipper) and it's not broken due to improper use then they will replace it.

If you tear your jeans on a rock they will not replace it, but if your jeans come apart at a seam they will replace them.

See the difference??

@sutheo: Yeah, but in the situation he's mentioned, this is hundreds of miles later on. After hundreds of miles on a pair of pants, if the zipper breaks, it wore out. There wasn't a problem with the manufacturing.

Therefore if you're trying to return it after all that....yeah, not the companies fault. You proved their product is sound and you still want to complain.

One is bound to be upset if their 3-year favorite pants break from a bad zipper and not wear and tear. I'd sure want another pair.

And it's not about morals, it's business. You pay more for every item so that you can return in case of faulty product, like a lifetime unconditional warranty. REI makes enough money from markups and people not returning that they can cover these returns. It works for REI and it works for their customers.

I am constantly amazed at the turns deals.woot conversations often take... From Oakley glasses to morality to what constitutes wear and tear vs. faulty zippers.

WOW! Super fast shipping! I ordered these on Friday, paid for the regular USPS shipping and they arrived today (Monday) in the mail. I was surprised and relieved as they are a birthday present for the hubby this weekend.

Hmmm - I see 5 pair at 77% off retail and another pair at 75% off retail. Even at 60% off thats huge. If you could buy a new car, a television or a refrigerator at 60% off, you would be jumping for joy. Your logic is faulty - perhaps you cant afford a pair of quality sunglasses. The dollar store sells some more in your price range.

Based on the color of your triangle I assume you are still an active deals.woot user.

Please go thru your old post and delete what is no longer active deals so the staff doesn't have to. There are over 2000 pages of deals from the year 2010 alone. If you need help to do this here is how: click on the tab with your name on it (it will list all your deals) all you do is hover on the deal and you will get the option to expire in the lower right corner-click it, then it will ask you to confirm and click yes.

Thank you.
