This isn't one of those ebay scams is it? The one where they email you an ACCOUNT that was started with a stolen credit card?

@mleejr: It looks like you get the actual code for the 4000 points, but I'm always wary of these. On the bright side, the seller has sold almost 500 of them (which leads me to be untrustworthy again) so if it is an account/ fraudulent, the feedback should let you know soon enough. Thus far, they've gotten lots of positive feedback, from accounts that have been around a while. So if this person's faking...they've put in an extraordinary amount of effort.

EDIT: it also seems to have been successful for OP

I was reluctant when I saw it earlier today. I already redeemed the code and it works.

Ya, I went back on his history and feedback and he seem legit. I may have to bite.

vote-for1vote-against

I bought this tonight and can confirm that it is legit. I received my code and it worked.

you have to be careful with these... People will buy these with stolen Credit Cards, and the code you receive is linked with the stolen credit card, which then is linked to your console when you redeem the code on it, which can result in a console ban, and unfortunately the excuse "I bought it off eBay" doesn't work.

I looked back at some of his older feedback. Seems like he's done a lot of stuff like this before and no one is complaining of it being illegitimate. A couple of people saying they didn't their stuff, but those both had follow-ups with resolutions.

I'm jumping on this one. Since others have said the code works, I'm sure it will be fine. Will report back if otherwise.

The seller seems to be member of Ebay since 2010, so the chances of this been a scam are way low. He is also using Paypal, so in the worst case scenario...we should be protected.

Out of curiosity, in the event of an XBox Live ban for using a code bought with a stolen card, what can you do? Is it banned on the account level so you can just make a new one (or can someone else in your house make one), or is it attached to your IP or something?

First, I will open a case with my credit card company (the one I used to pay the seller), to refund my charges. Then I will open a case with Ebay/Paypal, to get documentation about the fraud charges and for them to provide me evidence that the user was a fraudster.

Then I will provide the Xbox LIVE enforcement team the above evidence to "un-ban" my XBOX Console(the Ban is at the console/account level). More info below:

Still if someone doesn't feels comfortable with this deal, here is another one:

WELP, I just got a security notice that the auction has been shut down. Now, this doesn't necessarily mean that the item was fraudulent, as I've bid on stuff before that had this happen and it was just something about how it was listed... but this is certainly curious.

vote-for1vote-against

Indeed, I will keep monitoring this.

vote-for1vote-against

Sent a message to the seller asking why it was shut down. I don't know that I'll get an honest answer, of course, but we'll see.

Anyone else order and not get a code yet? I mean, the dude very well could be at work or something, but I'm just curious.

vote-for1vote-against

Based on another ebayer selling codes, it appears it's against ebay policy to email the code. Why this would be the case is anyone's guess...

vote-for1vote-against

That's funny, since you can sell a magic spell on eBay, but not an electronic code that actually does something?

vote-for2vote-against

Humm interesting, I got my code through Ebay mail and personal mail. That may be the case. So far the seller account seems to be legit, and the user still an active member of ebay. My points still on my Xbox account too.

Checked ebay policy on "electronic goods" and for sure he didn't follow the required format.

Hopefully is just a format issue. By the way, the seller is also a verified PayPal user.

Yep, these guys probably received a notice by ebay and they shut it down by themselves.

Emailing codes is not allowed unless you post your auction using an specific format.

vote-for1vote-against

That makes more sense. I bet the guy is inundated right now, so I'll be patient and see what happens.

vote-for1vote-against

Yep, the "prepaid games card" category is only for physical cards.

vote-for1vote-against

Nothing yet, but (before the auction was shut down), I noticed the most recent feedback was this morning before I placed my order... so that indicated to me that he stopped for some reason at a certain hour. If I don't get anything, or at least a note by this evening, then I'll start worrying.

vote-for1vote-against

I guess I was lucky and received my points already. They are still in my account too.

vote-for1vote-against

@sirencio: Check your ebay email too. The code arrived on both accounts for me at different times.

vote-for1vote-against

@804933697: Nothing. eBay mail matches the emails I've received.

vote-for1vote-against

Ok. Heard from the guy. He said that eBay was suspicious of the volume he was selling, so they took him down. I hadn't explicitly asked for it, but he returned my money as a courtesy while he dealt with eBay, saying he figured he would relist in about a week.
