It doesn't look very slim.

vote-for8vote-against

@doc362: It doesn't look very expensive either.

vote-for1vote-against

Looks like a solid deal. Anyone know what videocard this thing has I cant seem to find it.

vote-for3vote-against

This is a really good deal. Same refurb on Tiger Direct is $480. An i5 processor with 6GB ram and USB3.0 and HDMI is definitely up-to-date.

vote-for3vote-against

Per reviews (Tigerdirect) this model needs an update to drivers before it can use wireless. Not a big issue for most but be prepared to connect via a hard wire or download onto a thumbdrive or similar on another computer and transfer to do so.

Ok i just bit. Now someone come in here and tell me how terrible the laptop / seller is...

vote-for4vote-against

@embhorn: It may be slow to ship, but this seller sends what they advertise.

I've been in the market for a laptop with similar specs to this, and this looks like a great price. I pulled the trigger. I hope it arrives in decent shape for a refurb. Does anybody know if I could swap an SSD into this one easily? I assume I'd have to get my own Windows 7 disk and install it from scratch since they probably won't provide one. Assume I'd need a slimmer 7mm SSD to fit in the case too.

$24 state tax in FL really hurts this deal...

vote-for1vote-against

Damn good deal...give me one more year on the mini-lenovo netbook I got here ~10 months ago, and I will be looking for a deal like this!

vote-for1vote-against

@anarce: I am not a techie, but have looked into SSD's and it should work no issues - I would spend some time confirming you will need to get a copy of windows vs. getting to reinstall

In for 2 of them.

The i5 CPU is the good one. It is a 32nm chip, with 2 cores, and 4 threads. Launched in the 1st quater of 2012.

Some specs:

Max TDP: 35 W
Cache: 3mb
Clock speed: 2.5ghz
Max Turbo Clock: 3.1ghz

It scores a 3541 on Passmark, which is faster than my old X4 AMD Phenom.

Asus makes great laptops. I have 3 of them, with no issues to report. This is a great buy.

vote-for1vote-against

@anarce: if you have an external drive, or a way to make an internal drive into external (ask your friends if you dont) you can just use a program to copy the OS and everything else over to the ssd and then you wont have to worry about reinstalling anything(unless youre into that kind of thing)

vote-for1vote-against

Almost picked this one up. Maybe next time.

vote-for1vote-against

Mine still hasn't shipped. I'm beginning to regret this purchase. There are horror stories on all the review sites about 1saleaday. Sucks because now there is a similar Asus on Woot Plus for $80 more, but I won't buy it until I finalize this other "deal".

vote-for1vote-against

@mrphysical:
@nago31:
Have either of you received shipping notice yet?

vote-for1vote-against

@embhorn: I know this does not help much, but I always get my 1saleaday items, albeit slowly. A note to them (also slowly answered) may speed the process a bit. Best of luck.

vote-for1vote-against

In my order summary, they said the laptop would ship in 7-10 business days. Yesterday was 10 days, so I sent them an e-mail. Within an hour I got a shipping notice with a tracking number. All they did was submit it to UPS though. It does not show it as having been delivered to UPS yet. Hopefully it actually leaves their warehouse soon.

vote-for1vote-against

Update: just got this e-mail from 1saleaday:
I apologize for the shipping delay. We are currently experiencing some system problems with the tracking information. You can expect delivery shortly.

Keeping my fingers crossed. For those who skipped this sale or bowed out, I found that Microcenter has the same laptop new for $499. Not bad.

vote-for1vote-against

@anarce: Yup, I got the same emails and the same bogus tracking info. Read some of the complaints from the links I posted. Same thing. Over and over again. Hopefully the cc processors will revoke their payment services after enough people issue charge backs. Then this scam will get shutdown.

Also, Tigerdirect (who has their share of support issues as well) has this identical laptop for $450, plus its eligible for a SquareTrade warranty. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7371365

And the drama continues. My tracking number now shows delivery for for 01/31/2013, signature required. I sent my CC a note telling them of this latest development.

This has really made me appreciate merchants like Woot. Who would have thought I'd ever say "I wish they shipped like woot!"

vote-for1vote-against

@embhorn: As a business owner myself, let me be the first to tell you that the LAST resort should be to issue a complaint with your credit card company. The place of purchase (1saleaday) must now pay a paperwork fee. Most of the time, it is around $30 for this complaint. It is non-refundable, non disputable. Even though the merchant was within the time frame (10 business days) you issued a complaint. It is apparent that they are slow shippers, and that has been discussed over and over again on Woot.

Understand that these people are running a business, and receive thousands of orders a day. If there were more people like you in this world, it would be impossible for this kind of business to exist. I imagine 1SaleADay made around $30-40 on each laptop they sold. You left them with null.

The first step should always be contact with the merchant within their business hours, and allow them ample time to respond to emails.

Companies can go out of business like this. Stop being a jerk.

vote-for1vote-against

@anarce: You do understand that UPS does not do instant pickups, right? If the package is packed just outside of their pickup window, it leaves the next business day.

You got the best deal in the world on a sick laptop, I feel as though a little delay is expected if anything.

There is no such thing as bogus UPS tracking numbers either. If a package has not been scanned by a driver, or by the facility. There is no magical way to make up tracking numbers.

It really sounds like you are just whining at this point, and are just trying to find a reason to be mad at the merchant.

vote-for1vote-against

@l3000c: I'll have you know that I -did- in fact attempt to contact the seller. Twice. Once by phone (and I had to scour the internet for a number because they don't have it listed anywhere on their website. Wonder why that is?). I was told to email them because they couldn't look up my order number. So I emailed them. And I was sent a stock reply (that many other people received, so in fact they didn't even bother to look into my case, because this is just how they do business).

Companies can go out of business for having schitty customer service also. Pity, isn't it?

vote-for1vote-against

@l3000c: I'm not sure where you got a whining tone from my posts. I gave the merchant the full 10 days to ship that they had quoted. After that time had passed, I sent them an e-mail asking for a status update, hoping that the squeaky wheel would get the grease. Indeed, this seems to have prompted a tracking number within the hour, which seemed like more than a coincidence after 10 days of waiting. My hunch was that they quickly logged my laptop for shipping with UPS, so that a tracking number was generated, but it hadn't left their warehouse yet. Indeed, it looks like it was picked up the next day and is en route now. Then I posted my results here to share with others that are waiting too.

vote-for1vote-against

@l3000c: I was the one who said "bogus tracking number" and yes, it's quite simple actually. You just create a shipping label on the UPS site, and (not magically) you get a tracking number.

vote-for1vote-against

My laptop just arrived! I'm looking forward to checking it out when I get home from work.
