For this price, I would suggest you wait for a deal on a Sansa Fuze+ refurb, which are typically around this. I see them on here about once a month.
I have one of these generic touchscreen players. It has a different body, but the same software and interface. It is useable, but, at its best, a real pain to use. The resistive touch screen is nearly worthless. It requires a doubletap to unlock, but you end up having to hit is about 6 times before it registers.
Forget buying a touchscreen at this price. The Sansa Fuze is the way to go in this price range.
I have one of these. Paid more than this for it, but it's still not worth it.
Why anyone would spend money on a device from an unkown maker, running an unknown operating system, with no track record what so ever, is beyond me.
@ghost650: The one we have was bought for my 2 year old around christmas. We wanted to get him an MP3 player to listen to his "Wheels on the bus" and other annoying songs. We got it at Best Buy for $20. We weren't willing to spend more, assuming that he would just break it anyway.
It took him about 30 minutes to learn to use it, and for what it is, we are happy with it. But, I wouldn't recommend it for anyone wanting a "cheaper iPod". It will make you want to smash it.
@skoffer: My only concern there is that it would completely stop functioning, especially given the abuse that can come from use by a toddler. My experience is that many of these type devices stop working even when taken care of by an adult.
Personally I hand down my old android phones. They work perfectly as a media player and video game console and it teaches the functionality of an operating system they might one day use.
