The list price says $139.99. Mine's been preordered for quite a while now. Hoping for a release week price drop!

If LOTR Trilogy can retail for $99, then this certainly can. I'd only want 3-6 anyway, as well as everyone else....

Personally I'd avoid pre-order. The LOTR trilogy was $99 for preorder, then it dropped down to $69.99 last week. Chances are atleast one store will have this cheaper during the first month of it being on the shelves, and Amazon will price-match as always (along with Best Buy). Amazon's pre-order price guarantee is kind of crappy IMO because it accounts for release price only, and doesn't account for free store-exclusive bonus items you might get.

actually amazon priced matched my lotr extended bluray after it
shipped to 69.99

Release is over two months away - how is this a deal? It's not like there is going to be a run on the Blu-ray set.

this is George Lucas' (almost) sole source of income; the chances of the price dropping before the actual release date are astronomically slim.

@gochr1s: Not sole source. He took back LucasArts from Sony (maybe not all control) and this is coming out soon:

Why preorder if there is no insentive.. amazon usually has a preorder credit like $10-$20 future purchase.. btw.. they do not charge or even check if u have funds in the CC until it ships unlike other stores.. but still no insentive to preorder..

@jlgomez: Honestly, Amazon rarely offers a bonus credit on dvd or blu ray sets. It has been my experience that video games are the only items incentive is offered for pre-ordering.

Now, for someone like me, I have the original trilogy on VHS and the newer one on dvd. I enjoy the franchise for what it's worth, and this is a decent price for six newly released blu rays. So, I have it pre-ordered because Amazon always ends up being the cheapest on release week because they price match the cheapest. Again, this has been my experience.

Huge fans of the series will have this pre-ordered no questions asked, otherwise pre-order in the hope that it will get cheaper because a set like this will not be on sale too much in the near future. But, only pre-order if you are like me and you feel you need the upgrade.

@gochr1s: Have you heard of a little thing called ILM? There's nothing wrong with the price. At least it's all Blu-Ray. The LOTR set was half DVD, that I already owned! I still haven't bought it. I'm not paying that much for half a set I own already in a less attractive package than the original EE's.

How long have we been waiting for this? I think I can wait for a month or two extra and get it for 69.99.

Honestly, as soon as the market has been filled with these, george is gunna create a special edition, once those have satiated the market, a special extended edition and after that a special extended theatrical edition.

Also I have all of the DVD's so if its only a quality bump without any extras, ill just grab them from Netflix when I feel the need to watch one.

my comment about George Lucas was clearly tongue-in-cheek; at the very least, Star Wars is his baby & he is understandably VERY protective of it, and its value, hence my opinion on the likely LACK of downward movement on the final price of this item.

Is there anything "wrong" with the price? no, but there's nothing special (i.e. a "deal") about it either.

When the "Han Shoots First" edition of Star Wars comes out, I'll be saying the same thing...

@swader: FYI when you pre order from amazon they always give you the lowest price from the time you pre order to the items release date, so with this you can expect to get it for cheaper when they lower the price later on.

HANS SHOOTS FIRST ... these are apparently NOT like that, also, they aren't new transfers.

@gochr1s: He's obviously not that protective of it if he allowed the Phantom Menace to be released and did what he did to Return of the Jedi.
