Not sold by Amazon directly, but sold by what seems to be a reliable merchant. Amazon itself had it for a few dollars more a couple of weeks ago, but this seems like a good price. Reviews on it are pretty good to.
Adorama is a highly regarded and professional camera store & mail/internet retailer. They are one of the best places to buy cameras and accessories from - I actually have a link for them on my bookmarks toolbar.
This is also a good deal for the D3000 - $50 less than the price at B&H and other excellent retailers. It's a good camera, although if you want to get serious at all with photography I recommend the D90 (body only) instead. It's a much more advanced camera for a very good price.
I've bought a good deal of camera accessories from Adorama and have had good experiences from them. They also tend to ship things out fast.
You can use Cashback.com with Adorama to get an additional %3 - 10% off.
I got the D3000 on Black Friday and absolutely love it. It's my first slr, and there is definitely a steep learning curve. Even still, totally worth it. I also paid a bit more than this, so also a good deal.
I've had another brand DSLR for a little over a year now. My camera is very similar to this Nikon, and I'm very happy with it. Before buying your first DSLR I would strongly recommend some research into the brand you are considering to find out about that brand's lenses, because before long you will have a lot of money invested in lenses if you are serious about photography. Basically what you want to know about the lenses for the brand you are looking at:
Does the manufacturer obsolete older lenses by offering newer camera bodies that cannot use older lenses? And does the manufacturer build technology into its lenses instead of the camera body, thereby increasing the cost of the lenses? (example: autofocusing system) If you find that the brand does either of these things, I'd suggest looking for another manufacturer.
@speedoo: Let me guess. You have the Pentax D100? I got one from Woot a while ago. SLR and DSLR Pentax lenses fit all Pentax DSLR cameras. If you have an autofocus body, no problem, all non-AF lenses will fit it. Pentax lenses can be found cheap, too. Yard sales are a good place to look.
I've used adorama in the past with no issues and this is a great price on a great camera...
If you’re seriously thinking about buying this camera you should check out the Nikon D90. Yes it is more money but if your plan is to take a lot of really nice pictures you would be better off spending a little more money. Why spend 500 bucks when you think you may upgrade when you "get the hang of digital photography". On the other hand this is a really nice camera! ;)
Yeah, I will never use Adorama for anything again. Everytime I see a good deal posted here on deals.woot from Adorama, and I go try to order it, they send me an email later saying "Hey, the price was a mistake, but we will fill your order for any other items you ordered, just not the item you wanted" and they send anything else you ordered except for the item that you got a good deal on. This is a bait and switch strategy they use to get you onto the site, to buy accessories and things to go with their "deal" and then they email you to say "sorry, the price was wrong!" when they do it on purpose just to get you to the site and waste money on accessories or whatever else you may buy from them. Just say no to Adorama.
has anyone tried to use cashback on this--i can't get it to work on bing. If I can get a decent cashback I will be buying my first camera!
I buy all my equipment from Adorama.
