Requires $70 subscription to Total Defense; unless you're in the market for an expensive security solution, you're better off buying the drive at regular price.

The Tiger direct support said the first year was free. After that it is $80. You have to have an active subscription when the rebate is filled. You can cancel anytime after that. Hopefully they would send the rebate before the year is up.

It's basically like paying $34.99 for the hard drive, then paying an extra $70 for a year of security software and then getting a rebate back for the $70 software. Like was said above, it looks like you can activate the software subscription, get the rebate, and then either cancel or use the software for up to a year before canceling to not get charged anything else.

I bought one. Great deal if you don't mind jumping through a couple of hoops and cancelling the subscription later. The cheapest shipping was $3.69, plus tax was $7.26. So, the drive will end up costing me exactly $40.94 after the rebate.

@lostporcupine: The first year subscription is included with the purchase price. You can cancel anytime before the one year trial expires & you will not be charged anything.
