Totally want the Woot monkey thrown in there. Please, oh Woot Gods? Happy Easter too!!

vote-for4vote-against

I really wanted a hermetically sealed monkey!

vote-for4vote-against

Awesome, now I can seal my basil. :D

vote-for2vote-against

Is this as well protected as sealing in carbonite? Will the monkey survive the process? Will woot! compensate me if he dies?

vote-for7vote-against

I picked up one of these last time and couldn't be happier.

Grabbed a multi-pack of rolls at Costco with a coupon also... nice.

Sealed lots of smoked salmon and jerky I make, along with some cuts of beef for freezing... no problems at all.

You do need to press firmly with BOTH hands to begin the process...but after a few seconds the "hands free" light comes on and does the rest.

This is a no frills model....but it works.

If it came with a monkey I really would buy one.

I've had one of these for a couple of months. I bought it so I could break down bulk hops that I bought for homebrewing brewski. Works great for that purpose. We also use it to split up bulk meat purchases from Costco. Have had no issues using it at all.

I use the Rival brand rolls that I found at WalMart (roughly $10 for two 8" x 9' or 11" x 7' rolls) We got both 8" and 11" rolls that we can make any size bag that is needed.

what the heck are you gonna do with 4 bags?

@mystic`: Try reading the message just before yours. It was left twenty-four minutes before yours.

This is an awesome vacuum sealer. I highly recommend. Even without the monkey. The price is great as well.

vote-for1vote-against

I would get one but WOOT wont ship to HAWAII!!!!!!! WTF Woot...

vote-for1vote-against

Talk about Jesus rising from the dead! I JUST paid $5 more for this effing thing a few days ago on Yugster. Haven't even used it yet. Pisses me off, man!

@spectral: "Awesome, now I can seal my Basil."

Rathbone? I think he's long past saving, vacuum sealer or not.

vote-for2vote-against

Oh it's a monkey, on first glance it looked like something my cat left in the litter box.

vote-for1vote-against

Got one of these a few months ago, and it's great. You can wash and reuse the bags also, all you lose is the top portion you cut off. Have priced these units at WalMart, and they are $50 there.

vote-for1vote-against

Got one. Now all I need is a food dehydrator for the other stuff...and maybe some rad kits.

vote-for1vote-against

Got one of these at the last woot off. Works great. I got a box of 4 rolls of a different brand of bags at wall mart and they work fine. We sealed half of an avocado and it lasted a week and nothing spoils faster.

vote-for2vote-against

In for one, just completed my order... but then I was wondering... Is this going to crush my...basil? I want to take air out of the bag but I don't want it to flatten the contents to a brick. Guess I'll find out in 5-7 days

vote-for1vote-against

Do the "food saver" bags work with it? My food saver is does not always suck right, and it tales up alot of space.

vote-for1vote-against

@suzisamsel: I read from a previous comment on Amazon that you can use food save bags, but to make sure the textured side is facing up.

vote-for1vote-against

@haveawootday ... when u store your unused avocado half just leave the nut in with it in a zip lock and it'll last nearly a week without vaccuum sealing!

vote-for1vote-against

I got this last Woot; it's great!

vote-for1vote-against

Can you use this with liquids to marinade meats? I have a little hand held vacuum sealer, but it starts to suck some of the liquid inside the end of the pump.

vote-for1vote-against

I just saw a different company's vacuum sealer on the sale shelf at Target...for $100. Looked up Amazon reviews and it is apparently an abysmal product; disappointing, I've been wanting one of these for a while. At a fifth of the price and apparently much higher quality, hell yes I'll take one.

In for 1. I lost a freezer during hurricane Ike, due to leaking packages of meat that got into the mechanism of the frost free feature, and I have since been double wrapping in Hefty "Baggy" 1 and 4 quart bags inside of Reynolds extra heavy duty (nee super strength) foil. Even with the over priced bagging material, this may be cheaper than my present double wrapping genre.

I have a whole primal boneless USDA Prime Ribeye that will be finished aging in ~10 days, so I will try this unit on that!

FYI you can buy prime whole ribeye from Costco for ~$7.99/lb. But you have to ask their meat cutters, who will weigh and mark one up for you! Or, you can just pay $12.99~13.99/lb. for the prime beef they offer in smaller packages in their fresh meat department.

Ive had one for several months now. Paid $25 for it. The bags are available at walmart.

For the ones not wanting to crush or are doing mostly liquid. There is a way to get it to seal without sucking all the air or content out.

When you look inside there is a rubber ring that is for the vacuum part. I put the bags in front of the rubber ring so that the sealer still gets the vacuum pressure it wants and eventually switches to seal. Its a sensor system.

I hand evacuate the air and then activate the sealer without putting the bag in the vacuum part. I do it that way for vac packing buttermilk and soups.

The other nice thing is even if you do suck chicken juice out of the bag it still seals correctly and the spot wehre it ends up dripping in is very easy to clean.

vote-for1vote-against

@boldlygoingnowhere: If you are going to work the air out of a liquid by hand you can just use a regular zipper seal bag. That's the way I store chicken stock when I make a big pot.

@lowballer007: That sux bra . . . damn lone star howlies

vote-for1vote-against

In for one! Been waiting for a good deal on one of these for a while!

vote-for1vote-against

Those things suck.... hehe

vote-for1vote-against

Got one of these at the last woot off and I have been enjoying it thoroughly! Works well for sealing bulk meat and other hard foods. It does not work well for soft or excessively wet foods because it doesn't have a 'soft foods' setting and water into the vacuum motor is bad news. Other than that, its a great price and buy it if you wanna save some money on some awesome steaks!!!

vote-for1vote-against

@zacharyb: just slide the bag back towards you and out of the rubber ring of the vacuum part. I usually butt the end of the bag against the vacuum seal part to make sure I have it in far enough.

We buy the Weston 100 bag packs. They work better than any others we've used with our FoodSaver V3420. They hold a vacuum better and come in three pre-cut sizes! Link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BADTKQ

Please don't buy it for the monkey. I have so many, I pretend they're candy at Halloween..."Oh, what a beautiful princess you are! Have THREE sealed candy monkeys!"

vote-for1vote-against

Mine came without bags and had clearly been opened previously. I am very disappointed as now I can't even see if it works without buying bags that probably cost more than the sealer itself. At least they could have sent the monkey.

vote-for1vote-against

Mine doesn't work. Arrived days ago and was until today when I can test it. Nothing, nada, it doesn't turn on. I am very disappointed.

vote-for1vote-against

Mine quit working. Wouldn't even seal to make a bag from a roll. I called the toll free #, and they are sending me a NEW UNIT. The phone rep said our unit was obsolete, and that they would replace it with a current model.
