I hate liars, I brought one of these back in the summer and have never had an issue with it. Could be a little faster, but it does what it is suppose too.

I'm here to add the obligatory "I bought this and it broke within three months" comment.

That is all. Thank you.

@bazpix: Yeah, mine seem to take a performance hit one and upgrade from gingerbread to ICS. Of course, having tons and tons of $.10 apps from the "1 Billion Apps Sold" Google store promotion I have something to do with this. Dollar for dollar, this is probably the best superlow budget tablet out there. 1024 x 768screen resolution going for $208 on Amazon right now. And no case. The purpose built case has metal "brackets" that you can't even see after you put the video in the case. It does not fall out. Ever.

@xfiles954: You shouldn't be writing about stuff about which you know nothing. I have purchased two of these refurbished – one from w00t and one from eBay. They both came in a technical white boxes with as new devices and brand-new accessories. Charger, HDMI cable, USB cable, and very cool case that will protect your device and allow you to pop it up in landscape mode.
It comes with Gingerbread and updates to ICS . At that point you have a nearly new 8" tablet with GPS, turn by turn navigation app, high resolution compared to other devices at this price point, 4 x 3 aspect ratio, infrared programmable remote, the hardware to support a compass.

Assuming that this is the same refurbished device I purchased twice from two different vendors, worrying about it being refurbished is wholly unwarranted.

@bcubedz28: That's odd, because on Amazon there are people who say the issue is with the internal harness that connects to the micro USB port, not the charger itself. There's a youtube video of a guy who took 20 minutes trying to open his to get at it. That and the 512mb of RAM being too little with the later Android versions was enough to put me off.

@Danny95333 - Co-worker bought one a year ago. USB charger died 8 mos later. Research and phone call determined it was a known issue (bad batch of chargers) and the USB chargers were replaced for him and his two kids.

@offline999: I can't decided which one I want. the note 2 or the galaxy 3. either way I got to wait till its on my network

@amoraluv: The old EVO is getting pretty long in the tooth actually. I think I even heard it tell my Acer tab to "get off my lawn" the other day. It's going to be put out to pasture as soon as the Samsung Note II comes down in price on Sprint.
I watched all of Season 4 of "Sons of Anarchy" on the EVO. Not exactly IMAX but...it did the trick.

@superllama7: I have one and I was able to use the remote on the TVs in my house until the OS was updated. Then it quit working.

It's not a problem though really because an 8 inch tab is rather bulky to use as a remote. : )

Sorry about the confusion on the New/Refurbished. We're working on fixing it now.

UPDATE
The tablet is Refurbished. If you purchased thinking it was new and would like to cancel your order, please email support@woot.com for assistance. Include your woot username and order number for faster service.

@amoraluv: My HTC EVO with gingerbread and 512MB RAM is hurt by your insensitive comment.

(/sarcasm)

The tablet comes loaded with gingerbread but it will instantly begin bugging you to update which includes an OS update to 3.2.1. I have heard that if you are one to root your tablet this update makes it harder but I haven't tried. The only problem with the updated version is the home/menu buttons lose functionality and the screen size is reduced by the addition of a menu bar to provide "soft" buttons for those functions.

I dropped my VTAB on the driveway and cracked the screen. It still works as I am writing this comment on it but will have to consider a new one and let the kids take the cracked one.

I got one of these for my mom last Christmas. The USB charging port broke right after the 3 month warrantee. Now it is as useful as a placemat. I’m pretty disappointed with the purchase. I spent a little more and got her a Nexus 7 for this Christmas. You might want to invest the extra money too.

Bought one last year for xmas and it's a pretty decent tablet. Slower then the higher end ones of course, but it has been updated from the gingerbread platform. I think mine at home is running on 3.1 or 3.2 now which made it a lot better then it was before.

This has an upgrade from Vizio to Honeycomb 3.2.1. Also, on XDA there are Cyanogenmod updates to Ice Cream Sandwich. The built-in IR and software can make this a killer remote for your A/V system, too.

Bought one last Christmas, works great for web browsing, gameplay, and also for watching movies in the car.

it lost me a gingerbread and 512mb ram

Got one of these for one of my kids last xmas, it works great. It actually has pretty decent parental controls unlike all other android tablets I've tried. The refurb deals on it this year made me buy 3 more for the rest of the kids. It wont keep up with the latest crazy games but it's still worth it imo.

I 100% agree with you. At the very best it is really sloppy and confusing to a potential customer and if that customer is not paying close attention after seeing the word "NEW" they are in for a disappointment leaving a bad taste in the mouth as far as further dealings with Woot. At worst, (and I choose not to believe this) it is a marketing ploy to unload something for more than it really is. Even though I do not believe this is what the case is I would understand anyone who felt that it was. So again, that just is not good for the customer and Woot.

I am sure they have the ability to make a correction and take out the word new or edit to state, "refurbished" tablet with "new case" and that would be a very good idea.

I have one makes a great remote, but it general is a little slow. But not bad for books, web browsing, email, and other light tasks. I like it.

@dpb39: I agree... The headline for this writeup is misleading

vote-for5vote-against

I've never used one of these, but I always thought it's pretty sweet that they have an IR transmitter, so it (I'm assuming) can also be your universal home theater remote...

Not to nit-pick but the title "VIZIO 8" Android Tablet with Folio Case (New)" makes it seem like the tablet itself is new rather than refurbished. I guess the new refers to the case but still seems a bit confusing to me.
