I'm going to pull the trigger on this one and purchase an aerovac upgrade, which basically turns it into a 564 (the pet model).

They retail at around 440 new.

Thought I'd chime in once more...
Mine arrived with the aerovac bin, so the upgrade kit I purchased it going back to Amazon.

I don't know if they automatically replace the bins on refurbs with the newer model bin, but it might be wise to wait and see which yours comes shipped with.

btw, I also am in love with this thing. Our house looks like someone cares about it now. It picks up dog hair better than anything else (something I hear it has the edge over the neato with). Even my regular vacuum doesn't do this good a job as the exhaust port continually blows hair across the floor and hides it somewhere else. The roomba's exhaust port isn't as powerful so it seems it actually kind of makes use of it as it turns, blasting stuff out of corners and weird impossible to reach areas and then picks them up on it's later sweeps.
This along with the new bin means it picks up tons of stuff and the hair tangling issues I heard of from previous models bin doesn't seem to be happening with ours.

Flogging a dead horse here I know, but 'weloveyou' coupon for a further 17.50 off.

Thanks for all of this info, breaddrink. Just ordered as a result. Question for you: does yours support lighthouse? I have a large, sprawling 1 floor house and I'm hoping it does lighthouse so it'll do 1 room at a time and then guide itself all the way back to the dock. Seems the earlier 560s supported lighthouse but they dropped support when the 780s came out.

I was just asking irobot about this myself. They sent back a slightly odd response saying I would have to call them to discuss it further.

Calling them is a non starter apparently. They will offer me an upgrade for more money, but of course, the three year warranty is at stake here, so that's not even an option.
I must admit to being a little disappointed in them.

From what I can ascertain from other people posting on the matter, the new 560s (non refurbs) do not allow the use of lighthouses, but the old ones do.
Supposedly, again according to the info I've read, the old units are not disabled when refurbished, but the newer ones will obviously continue to not have this feature, so in theory the old ones will still work, even though they ship with virtual walls instead of lighthouses.
It seems a little hit and miss. I'm trying to figure out how I can test mine out without spending money on something that won't work.
I do know I have an older serial number.

buyhappier.com just issued me a 17.5% refund when I mentioned that I hadn't applied this code while ordering but could I anyway?

I can't remember a company ever doing this after the fact. I'm amazed at how polite and fast their customer support is.

I would also like to mention that purchasing through buyhappier.com grants you a FREE 3 year warranty (provided by buyhappier.com, not the manufacturer warranty). Details:

"What is covered - Mechanical and electrical failures that occur during normal use of your item that are a part of the Manufacturer’s Original Warranty. Your item is covered for up to the full purchase price of your item (excluding any tax or shipping charges). "
