Not really a "deal"

The tumbler probably costs Starbucks 10 dollars to make, so the free coffee (80 cents?) isn't really going to break them.

@promyst: So 31 days of free coffee and a 16 ounce tumbler, which you keep, isn't a deal? I'm glad I never have to buy presents for you!

vote-for3vote-against

Starbucks has the best tumblers out there. I'm not a fan of their coffee (I'm a Peet's guy), but the tumblers are awesome. They seal extremely well, and will keep your coffee hot for an hour (warm longer). Free coffee on top of that is a nice bonus!

So does anyone know the "restrictions"? Can you get flavored coffee or any other type of coffee drinks?

vote-for4vote-against

I asked about these cups at my local Starbucks this morning and the barista told me the store only got around 10 and they had only one left. Apparently they have been selling them to people who ask for it. She said I could get it filled with either hot or iced coffee, but nothing fancy.

Lesson here is that supplies seem to be very limited, so I would try to grab one today or be there early tomorrow.

i tried to find info about whether they limit you to something like one free serving a day. does anybody know if that's one of the "restrictions"?

vote-for3vote-against

@promyst:

So it's only a deal if it hurts Starbucks? That logic seems flawed.

From my POV, this isn't a deal because I don't like Starbucks coffee, but for someone who does, this is a great deal.

While I don't think that the Starbuck's tumblers are awesome (they are, after all, just tall insulated coffee cups with lids that seal to prevent leaks), @drjing is right about them being better than most.

vote-for4vote-against

@kfujita: The cups don't have tracking numbers I don't think, so how would they know unless you say something? I guess I would just suggest don't check in on foursquare or whatever so they don't look at their phones and go "pfft, you checked in earlier."

vote-for3vote-against

@baqui63 @misterron: I retract my statement! I didn't realize it was 31 days of free coffee, I thought it was just one free cup at time of purchase. My bad :)

vote-for9vote-against

@kfujita: per my barista "Just don't come in, fill it up, walk outside & dump it into another cup, then come right back in. If you get a cup in the morning, a cup at noon, a cup after work, no one's going to care."

vote-for1vote-against

@tom84 @amyb3641 thanks for the responses!

hopefully i will be able to get one tomorrow. i'm thinking this will be a cool white elephant gift

@promyst: You can't take back your negative vote and comment, and need to start reading closer before down voting and making knee-jerk negative statements.

vote-for-4vote-against

@misterron: Oh now I know why you are mad. It's your deal. It's okay to have negative votes, and Deals.Woot isn't the world. Don't worry about it!

Edit: Also, Starbucks doesn't serve very good coffee :S

vote-for3vote-against

there is a paper insert in the cup that they are suppose to cross out each day you get one in jan :)

vote-for1vote-against

The tumbler is normally $10.95 but for the "special" tomorrow it is $19.95. Still a deal with the coffee but why the markup on the mug that is on the site for purchase every other day for $10.95?

vote-for1vote-against

I stopped by my local bucks and asked about the "Restrictions", they said that the deal isn't offered in Canada (Which I can see from my house- but I can't see Russia) nor at stand alone stores such as the one at the local book store which made if fairly definitive. I couldn't buy one today, I have to wait until tomorrow. I'm wondering how they calculated it as being a $70 value?

vote-for1vote-against

@kenhuston: I know a medium size coffee at Starbucks here in VA costs $2.05, tax included. Multiply that price by 30 days and add about 10 bucks for the tumbler and you've got just over $70.

vote-for2vote-against

None of my local Starbucks even got the tumblers. I'm not a coffee drinker, but it would have been a nice thing for my girlfriend.

vote-for2vote-against

The quantities are very limited. I went in at ~7:45 and they had 2 left and they were all gone after I got mine and the guy behind me got his. The paper inside that someone said they are supposed to mark isn't removable, so if they mark at all it'll go on the outside of the plastic meaning the mark should be removable.

vote-for2vote-against

@deegutches mine had a paper in it but it was only the "care" instructions for the tumbler. I got to my Starbucks at 6am when the first opened and they only had 4 total that were out. I didn't bother asking how many htey had available becasue I got mine and needed to get home to finish getting ready for work and the kids ready for school.

Google or go to starbuckstore.com (if you can) and click on drinkware to get to the tumbler. Any link I try to add redirects to Commission Junction. The cost is $19.95 + $3.00 shipping and sales tax. You can also try the code STNPWEKD, which may or may not give 10% off. Sorry I couldn't get any link to work. Good luck!

You can buy them from their website as well. Having had Starbucks deliver other things (usually replacement cards), they are very efficient. The mug should definitely arrive before January 1.

Great deal!

vote-for3vote-against

Bought one from my local Starbucks at about 7:30 this morning and it sounded like they still had a few. I also asked if they would do iced coffee instead of the regular brewed and they agreed to that but couldn't promise other locations would.

vote-for2vote-against

I went to the closest Starbucks to my house shortly before 9AM and they were out. The next closest had two left. It seems that people are correct in that quantities are extremely limited.

vote-for2vote-against

I went to 4 of them this morning amd they were out, they are out online too.
