Bought these from another daily site a few weeks ago - absolutely love them. I have tried the Bose noise cancelling headphones and these are not as effective but comparable, which is amazing considering the difference in price. These are the best headphones I have ever owned in regards to sound quality.

I had been eyeballing these passing through the airports over a few trips. One day I saw them at a Tuesday Morning store for $100 which was a great deal but I didn't bite. A few weeks later they had them on clearance for $80. But I didn't bite. Then one day they were having a 50% off all clearance items sale which put them at $40. I grabbed them, and clutched them close to me sinisterly looked at everyone around me thinking, "These people have no idea how much these are retail."

Moral of the story is, this is a pretty damn good deal. The noise cancellation isn't as good as the Bose QuietComfort line, but IMO the sound quality is superior. I would say the only downside is that they are bulky, and not as "premium" feeling as the Bose.

I've owned both these and the Bose. The Bose has superior noise cancellation, but you are paying for that and the brand name. One thing these have over the Bose, besides cost value, is that the speakers will still play your music if the battery dies. In the Bose, the whole thing shuts off and they become worthless if you don't have a spare battery handy.

Customer service is also good. The hinges broke on my original pair, and they replaced the set with a newer version for free.

If you have a Costco in your city, they have these for about 40 bucks. Bought a pair and I love them!

@bund9032:
i recently saw the able planet headphones at costco for $40 also but they were not the NC1000CH model in this post.

I bought a pair of these last year and couldn't be happier. They're very comfortable (even for a guy with a huge...cranium) and can drown out anything from airplane noise to the screeching, ear bleeding, banshee wailing new episode of The Real Housewives (marriage savers!)

Also great for gaming!

Bar NONE! These are the best noise cancelling headphones. Period. I've tried them all.

@dealkittie: I don't belong to CostCo, but the ones there might be the NC1100B model. I just bought a pair (arrived in the mail yesterday), and they are horrible. There is random, intermittant buzzing / feedback (sounds like something isn't shielded properly, and is picking up stray electricity). I use them on a commuter bus, and something in the right can rattles when the bus hits a rough patch of pavement (which in DC is a frequent occurrence). There is a volume control on the wire, but the volume dial causes static and one of the cans to cut out altogether when you adjust it.

It's a shame, because I really wanted to like them. I'm reluctant to buy another Able Planet product, but given the good reviews here and this price point, I may.
