UBISOFT Battle Tag: 3 Player Laser Tag Starter Pack for PC with Up to 8 Players & 300M Gaming Range for $79.99 + shipping
Some might call it a team-building exercise. Others might say it’s a chance to finally shoot their boss in the face.
It's for 3 players, not 2 as the title suggests.
Does this require an internet connection while playing?
look like fun
Fair warnng This Company's CS is the worst to deal with look at my review on Fat Wallet. http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/deal-discussion/1193258/
You know, every time these pop up (and they seem to pop up frequently, yeah?) I look at them and think how much fun they'd be in the right environment. But to be honest, it's just another toy that would gather dust :\
@bigfrank: I have never had a problem with this company. Maybe I am a lucky one, but I have purchased numerous items, and all were new and as described. I have purchased this system and it is pretty awesome. We have kids at our house playing this system all the time (we have 8 guns and vests).
Anybody know if you can just buy two of them in order to have a six gun game? Or do yu have to buy the guns separately?
@flyingwriter: I think the website says something like 8 together if you buy enough kits, and the range from the base station (which keeps score and other stats like ammo (I think)) is like 300m
For you software nerds, it sounds like there is also an API to write your own game mods, and there are some avaiable on the web already
I was bummed I missed this last time, I won't pass it up this time.
Check out the reviews.

@bigfrank: I've only made one or two purchases but I'll count myself as having no issues.
I bought several of these last time it came up and received them all within like 3 days of placing the order. Was very happy.
I bought enough for 8 players one of the first time this was posted. I received them very quickly with no problems. The game is a lot of fun, and the more players the better. Everything works really well, but I wish they would have at least given us the ability to easily create our own game modes.
You can buy multiple of these packs to have up to an eight player game, you just won't use the extra Ubiconnects. It does not require a constant internet connection to play, but the first time you are connected to the internet it will update everything which will take a little while.
@flyingwriter: Yeah, I bought two kits last time, and just two days ago my kids were playing a 5 player game. It was fun, though they were bummed out that there was no capture the flag mode. Notice that if you are playing with kids, the first time you play with any specific gun, the guns firmware needs to be updated, which takes about 10 minutes (seems like forever to 5 boys!)
@jimnms: no internet connection required while playing or when you start the game. Only during initial install of the PC software and the initial gun update.
Damn, I got these last time when they were 2 for 80, and I still haven't used em. I'm sad now.
@jimnms: The game does NOT require an internet connection to play. However, it does periodically update the software (and will on initial install) which does require being online. Assuming you install onto a portable system, you are free to take it someplace with no connection to play once the setup is done.
Three players? Lol. Talking about unevenness. Might as well have to buy two sets (that's probably why).
While last month's was better (http://deals.woot.com/deals/details/3b29a64d-8d44-47f4-a7b1-7e9d1b6bf970/ubisoft-battle-tag-ultimate-combo-pack-3-t-blasters-3-vests-4-t-bases-2-ammo#34) I am still very tempted to jump on this...
one of the community "mods" for this system is 16 player support - the community is also working on decoding the RFID data stored in the health and ammo packs with the hopes of creating custom (read CHEAPER) expansion for the game and different items (bump the gun to an rfid tag for 30 seconds of unlimited ammo, armor, vampirism, pickup the flag, diffuse bomb, etc).
once the API is in java, a simple powered USB hub and almost any android smartphone will be able to run a gaming session - making this system slightly more portable. not to mention the fact the software will then run on Windows, Linux, and Mac.
there is a battle tag wiki page setup and an unofficial forum where development is being done. google it and check it out!
at this price, it is a steal - in for one!
@tehtruth: Can you do a direct link? I have 12 guns and would LOVE a 16 player game.
Also, this deal doesn't have the expansion pack. I have 2 extras from that deal that I could part with. It includes 2 health packs and 2 more bases and you can play CTF more or less this way and a few other game modes.
I've been asking 40 bucks plus shipping, which seems cheaper than what ebay is asking for by at least 20 bucks if anyone is interested.
@theflatline: I'm interested in that deal $40 for expansion + med. Missed out last time and I just bought a few sets today. Once my order has come in and I've played it once or twice I'll know better if the expansion + med add to the fun or not. Let me know how to contact you (email is best).
flatline42 at gmail is your best bet. Just topic it "battle tag expansion". I have two unopened and will part with at least one. Right now the cheapest I've seen it go on ebay is 60 bucks, and most of the buy it nows are for 100 bucks, which is stupid.
The expansion is interesting. It gives you 4 more game modes, including rustler, which is pretty close to CTF.
The URL for the homebrew mods is:

Among other things you can set up 16 player games and a few other things. It looks like the homebrew station software is humming along nicely too. Ubisoft may have abandoned the game, but just the ability to get 16 players going is enough to make it a viable system for me (team games get interesting starting with 5 players in my experience).
Started cracking up when I saw this. My brother was so excited to get laser tag for xmas about 20 years ago. Unfortunately, my grandma only bought 1 vest and 1 gun. It was a very lonely game.
@xbeachyxkeenx: That was the problem... and at retail price that's the problem here too. 100 bucks a tagger is insane. The 25-30 you're paying here is far more reasonable.
In for 2! The nieces & nephews are going to love this over the summer!
