Not a good deal unless you already own batteries for this model.

well, the battery & charger are going to run you about $100 with shipping.. all around, not all that bad.

@crethwilm: It's funny the relationship between the cost of the device and the batteries. I have a 9.6v dewalt drill that needed batteries, but they were $49 each. Before Christmas, Lowes put a 9.6v drill kit on sale for $59. The kit contained a drill, two batteries and a charger. I bought it even though I just needed a battery. Now I have my new battery, a spare battery, a spare charger base and a spare drill for not much more than the cost of a single battery! I think their marketing people need better accounting skills!

@thilderbrand20: @thilderbrand20: Of course you can buy the dewalt dc727ka with TWO batteries and a charger for $96.06 here:

Granted, it's in the UK, and shipping is about $60 to the US, but this is the same non-sense I posted about to crethwilm above. It's almost not worth buying a tool or battery alone anymore, you may as well buy a complete kit.

Dewalt is geared for the contractor. I have almost every dewalt cordless tool (including the calk gun) and the reason for the price diffrence is beacause if you regulary buy their tools you will have leftover batterys. It is a perk for buying their products. I have about 20 batterys that I have yet to put a first charge on. The tool itself is a good tool, and if I didn't have so many I would buy it.

@ryry2410: Care to sell any 18 volt batteries?

I have a huge bag of Dewalt tools in the garage. They will sit there and rot. Ever since I bought the Makita L-ion tools I will never touch another Dewalt. They really are overrated and the batteries are only good for about a year where I live. (Las Vegas).

@johnnyschmitz: +1. Have to agree. Dewalt is Black & Decker with different colors/name. I've got 20+ years on my first Makita driver/drill and it's still going strong. Never had a Makita fail and the batteries last and are available everywhere. I do have one Dewalt corded drill that has been fine but for cordless it's Makita all the way. This is in a commercial environment, not home use.

I've used Dewalt, Mekita and PorterGable. The Dewalt feels the best. My DeWalt lasted about six years. Couldn't get batteties so Santa got me a Makita li-ion and you can't beat the battery life but still liked the DeWalt beter.

Is it just me or do the photos show a used drill? so there is only one of these? but everyones right the batteries are going to cost alot more. Kinda like the blood testing kits they are free but the strips are 40 bucks

I'm a commercial low-voltage installer, and I've been through three DeWalt drills in 5 years -- and my 4th one will barely hold a bit anymore! DeWalt used to be a brand you could trust, but they started making their tools a lot cheaper a little while back, and I would now buy a Ryobi over a DeWalt! It's a good thing my business pays for my drills, but why they keep buying DeWalts is beyond me. Do yourself a favor, either buy a Ryobi and save some money or buy a Makita or Milwaukee and never have to worry.

I use ridgid tools now...they hold up better and the one drill i broke(was my fault) they actually fixed for free after the warranty was out.
