You should pay me to take this HD DVD. This has to be the worst woot deal ever. Why don't you just post some crab or lobster deals again. This media was obsolete 2 FULL YEARS AGO.

It isn't obsolete. It has the same quality as bluray for a lot less. the problem is playback. I am slowly migrating to BD and only buy BD now for the most part.

But this is no deal. You can get this cheaper if you shop around.

I got my mother an hd dvd player when blurays were $200+ . I got it for about $30 and it has been a great investment. It plays standard dvd's and you can pick up hd dvd's so cheap now. She is still amazed at the quality of King Kong and other HD DVD movies and she can play her standard dvd's (90% of her movies) in a higher quality than a standard dvd player.

I have an HD-DVD player, but I don't like terrible movies. So I guess I'll pass.

But if you own an HD-DVD player and love terrible movies this seems like a great price!

@auctionsaver: This format IS obsolete. Please show me where I can buy a NEW HD-DVD player from three different manufacturers. Heck, even show me what the last movie to be released on this format was.

@proxgotsthafia: LOLZ. There's a HUGE diference between obsolete and no longer manufactured. High Definition DVD is no longer made, but is still nowere near obsolete. Standard Definition DVD is absurdly beyond obsolete, and yet, that dated, inferior, last-gen tech is available everywhere.

My HD DVD works fine right under my BD - some great movies up to a point and at a fraction of the cost. Picked up the Matrix Collection and the Harry Potter Box Set for next to nothing compared to the BD counterpart. Nothing new for years now.

You can also record in 1080p on a video camera and using Ulead software you can use a standard DVD to record 30 min of 1080 p HD DVD. The trips we take look great on standard DVD's abet the 30 min limit per. In the end you hardly need any new hardware if you have the camera, HD DVD player and a PC that can handle the encoding w/ a standard DVD burner. Quad Core works best.

Be careful when you buy an HD-DVD. Most titles from Universal were issued with Dolby Digital Plus soundtracks, as opposed to TrueHD or DTS-HD soundtracks, which the corresponding Blu-Rays have. I have learned this to my chagrin.
