@shoppersvineyard - After seeing your deals here for the past month, I finally checked out your site and I must say I'm pretty impressed and tempted by a few things. I'm a little worried about shipping costs, though. Do you ever do free or flat-rate shipping deals?

@1rudeboy: We occasionally offer free shipping on some of our weekly specials, but other than that standard shipping rates apply. Shipping depends on where you're located; we're in New Jersey, so shipping to, say, California is going to cost more than Pennsylvania. We'll make sure to include free shipping in our item description from now on to let you know when the opportunity arises.

@shoppersvineyard: I have to say, I never understand why your deals don't shoot straight to popular. The prices are usually very good, and the offerings are unique. I can't decide whether it's the time of day you're posting them, or just that there's so much of the boring same old same ol tech crap filling up the Fresh tab that no one ever sees them.

Have you ever considered being a #sponsored deal? I know that it may not be in your interests due to a narrow profit margin, but I note that many sites who've done so seem to gain quicker name recognition from doing that.

One suspects that you at least find it profitable to post here.

You might also consider purchasing something from Woot. I note that deals posted with an initial zero vote are less likely to receive votes. Unfair or not, that's how it is.

hmm tried to use estimated shipping feature & it didn't work, love me some good burbon, but after shipping I'm guessing this still might be a lil out of my price range for somethin I'll guzzle in a weekend

$15.00 shipping negates the value of the deal....you almost had me though.

Ouch. $15 for standard shipping to Ohio. That kind of obliterates the deal for me. Good stuff though.

I actually didn't take much notice of the deal initially because I equated the name "Four Roses" with rotgut.

A quick search turned up this: "In the 1960s, Seagram introduced Four Roses American, which was .... cheap, bottom-shelf stuff, and it ruined our reputation". But it also says, "by the 1960s, [Seagram] made the decision to pull Four Roses off the U.S. market and sell it only overseas"

I wasn't alive in the 60's, so I'm not sure if that's it.

Perhaps I was thinking of Wild Irish Rose (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wild_Irish_Rose).

Whatever the case, I'm now interested because I quite like whiskey. But, as others have said, $15 shipping kills it for me. That brings the total to $38. It sells in NC for $31.95 (prices are controlled by the state here).

To ballpark what you need to clear the logistics overhead and still have a great deal on alcohol, you need to have a $100+/gallon pricing density product (e.g. 4 $25 bottles of wine) sold at more than $20 off (e.g. 4 $20 bottle of wine price) before the deal even breaks even to a local store deal.

This product likely has a high enough pricing density but there would need to be more of it to break free of logistics overhead. (like maybe buying 3 or 4)

(this is an dynamic I'm always refining so I can explain better why we don't have a beer.woot)

Thanks so much for the feedback, we really appreciate it! We understand all your concerns about shipping charges. On our shipping page we have some helpful information about shipping (the zip codes chart is at the bottom of the page):

Also, while shipping may seem high for a single item, notice how it only moves up in small increments with additional units. While shipping for one bottle may be $15, shipping on 5 bottles is only $20 - just $5 a bottle! Why not find some friends who share your good taste and make one big order that saves everyone money?

Well, once again thanks for checking us out, and we hope you can find something you like at ShoppersVineyard.com!

@shoppersvineyard: You've hit the nail on the head: I don't have friends with good taste in liquor. They can't be persuaded to fork over more than $9.95 for a 1.75-liter bottle of Fleischmann's.

Do you have a service that helps me find better friends? ;)

vote-for1vote-against

@shoppersvineyard: Yes, the second bottle added only $1 for shipping to NYC, but I'm using store pickup anyway. I hope it won;t be a problem if it takes me a while to get over there for pickup!

@perkalicious11: When you find that service, you let me know.

$17 to ship here. Yikes. I could ship a still for that.

vote-for2vote-against

@shoppersvineyard: I didn't notice that the shipping only increases slightly for each additional bottle. I'll keep you guys in mind next time I'm thinking of stocking up - or if I can gather enough friends to go in on an order.
