I don't think that this can be called, in good conscience, a deal. The 1.3 GHz processor is dwarfed by the average netbook, which usually has 1.6 GHz. Admittedly, the 4 gigs of RAM and the 320 GB hard drive are quite good, but this hardly makes up for the processor and the 400 dollar price tag, 100-150 more than most netbooks. It's only saving grace is its dimensions. To quote from the website, it "is less than 1" thin at its lowest point, weighs 3.5 pounds and packs up to eight hours of earth-friendly battery life."

@vorosh: If you think processor speed is everything, I've got some real fast P4s from 2005 that I'll give you a good deal on.

well, I mean, for all the $250, 1.6 GHz, 1 GB DDR3 SDRAM, and 250-500 GB hard drives that have been on woot over the last few months. Don't you think you could take that $150 and by some RAM and maybe a usb cd drive?

This site can be used to compare processors.

The SU2700 has a bigger cache memory than an atom processor, it is better than an atom processor for many applications.

This seems like a great deal, and PC connection is first class IMO.

Regardless of the screen and memory size, if I'm going to pay $400 it better have a much faster processor.

@ob: Exactly! When will people learn that comparing processors purely clock-for-clock (1.3GHz vs. 1.6GHz etc...) doesn't work? This CPU will beat an Atom (esp a single core netbook atom) in nearly every benchmark and real world application.

This is a fair deal, if you ask me, but these "thin and lights" are going to be flooding the market with back to school just around the corner. I'll keep an eye out.

when you say flooded, how much lower in price will a coumputer like this go for?

I really want a thin computer with good battery life for just pictures and web surfing.

@ob: Thanx for that site! This CPU trashes even the highest end Atom CPU (which I haven't even seen around yet) let alone the lowly 1.6GHz Atoms.

Just a heads up for everyone... I picked up the Aspire Timeline (5810TZ-4657) from newegg not too long ago. It's a great laptop with a huge, bright screen, DVD RW, and everything this deal has. It's no longer available but if you don't mind refurb and exchanging a DVDRW for a gig of ram then check out

I have the Acer 4810T with the 1.40GHz Core 2 solo processor. There definitely is not a lot of processing power on this computer, but I didn't buy it for processing power. I bought it for the advertised 8 hour battery life and it achieved that and more. With normal use (closing it and letting it sleep when not in use), you can get a couple of days out of this thing without charging. Granted, you need to turn the brightness down and the wireless off to maximize the time, but for something like taking notes in college, you can't beat it. I use mine for Office programs, light CAD work, and for connecting to TVs via HDMI to watch downloaded movies and youtube vids and such.

I don't know if the 3810 has it, but the drivers that came with mine support multitouch on the mouse pad. It also has an extremely useful and intuitive scroll feature that basically turns your mousepad into an ipod touch circle so you just rotate your finger around in circles to scroll up and down.
