ViewSonic gTablet UPC-300-2.2 10.1" Tablet PC (Refurbished) for $199.49 + free shipping
Oh, you expect me to play Angry Birds on a phone like some kind of SAVAGE?!
I have had one for over a year and still use it heavily. Definitely a sturdy little machine. Of course... bad screen angles.
Team DRH made ICS possible for the gtab.

Dunno that I would buy this for $199 when nVidia and Asus are talking about a 7 inch tablet with a Tegra 3 processor for $249.
Let the gTablet rest in peace.
I love mine with cyanogenmod ...if you get it.... google "gtablet for dummies" the guy there walks you through getting it all set up. The negatives are: the screen angles- which have never been a problem for me...especially with cyanogenmod because you can rotate the screeall the way around so that the angle view is clear, and the side charging port will probably stop working as it may come loose. I purchased a dock which charges and gives me hdmi to my tv via the bottom port -and also another usb slot.
These still exist? Mine died so fast. It was good until it fell while plugged in; it never charged again (just like @thehoffaman described). A charging port, I didn't think of that. I dissected it instead.
Anyway, I've moved on. I now have four Androids, all better straight out of the box. The gTab was my gateway drug.
I don't think I need AA (Androids Anonymous), do I? I didn't plan on the fourth. Honest.
Bad screen angles, much thicker and heavier than others and stock UI is terrible. But it's also cheap and does the job fine once you put a decent UI on there like cyanogen.
I let my kids play with it and keep the more expensive tablet for myself.
If you can afford it (extra $100?), pick up one of the Samsung Galaxy tablets instead - they're much lighter and thinner, have a much nicer screen and have a nice UI out of the box.
I have one. I have a love/hate relationship with it. Definitely the cheapest of the recognizable brands but it shows. The biggest drawbacks are the screen angles and the two finger multi-touch. It's no speed demon either and gets dragged down by certain apps I wouldn't expect it to have trouble with.
I don't regret getting it 1.5 years ago but wouldn't do it now. Many better refurb tablets for similar price plus new tablets around the corner that will blow away the specs (but for more money).
This is still my primary tablet. I travel back and forth from the US to Europe with it regulary. Viewsonic has abandoned it outside of warranty repairs, but the aftermarket modding community has kept this tablet strong since the very beginning. With the full release of Ice Cream Sandwich and it's associated drivers and code, the modding community continues to thrive.
You are not betting Transformer prime for this price, but I have been happy every day I used this one. This is a great starter tablet.
@prcapone: Not sure I would buy one today either. Hate the viewing angle (when I bought it originally I though "Viewsonic must know screens" - how wrong was that?) BUT it's great to fool around with. Worked through all the other ROMS and now installed ICS by Team DRH. Learned all about the DRH (which I needed to drill) and have a lot of fun with it. I'd be less adventitious if I had a more expensive tablet.
Personally, I think this is a waste of money. This unit is well over a year old (and was selling for $279 around that time) and Android 2.x is extremely old and not designed for tablet use. Others have mentioned major issues with it (like the horrible screen angles - yes, that becomes a problem). Look, for $150 more, you can get a Refurb iPad 2 straight from Apple and have something that's dramatically more useful, powerful and well designed. This becomes little more than a toy and an expensive one at that.
Why would I spend $200 on this when I keep seeing Xooms and other more modern 10 inch tablets for $250. If this was $100 then it would be a deal.
I have one, bought day one, and I have been running a non-stock ROM for as long as there has been alternatives. The stock UI is absolute garbage--although it tried to be innovative with the whole users thing... It is just horrible. It hinders the Tegra chip inside the tablet OH SO much...
It is mounted in my kitchen with sticky velcro dots and I use it for recipes and watching youtube videos when making dinner or when I need music in the kitchen. Hooray for SDCards with tons of space to download my google music to!
Refurbished iPad... to that I say...
COME ON!
I bought this a year ago for 250.00. I love it. It works well with honeycomb. I did try DRH's ICS, and it sux. No offense to them, but it's buggy as hell. Cyanogen Mod works great. The viewing angles are bad but I really don't notice it that much. I have a case with a stand and I can usually see it just fine.
If you are looking for a cheap tablet, this is a good one because it will work and it is heavily supported by the online communities(eg like the one found at XDA Developers). If you are looking for a tablet in general and you have money to spend, maybe get a new one.
A couple more negatives to throw into the ring :)
Customer service is...bad. No, I take that back.. it's somewhere between nonexistent and bad.
These also have a problem with the power port.. poor soldering makes it so they break a LOT, which makes 'em useless.
I have one and enjoy it but would not buy at this time for this price. Plan to spend $60.00 more and get a much better tablet. Woot had a ton of better tablets around Dec/Jan. The Xoom, Galaxy, etc. almost all the big name 10in tablets released @ the same time are better then the G-tablet.
Yeah, I bought mine about a year and a half ago. While it was great at the time, I certainly wouldn't buy one today.
It's stupid to post the same negative points that are well known - weight/thickness, viewing angle, out-of-box OS. Move on if you know of a better deal or if "it's hard"- but I still use mine which is over a year old and modded. If I spent all my free time bitching about its inferiority to an ipad and the screen angles instead researching mods for it and making the UI to my liking I would have just wasted money on what would still, now be an old "obsolete" tablet - it's a kit tablet OK? Can we just know this and move on.. Its for you or not - shut up and keep the line moving if it is not for you.
I bought one of these over a year ago and it's been very good. Someone in my family uses it every single day and it's rock solid. I just updated mine to Android ICS a month ago and it is very stable and even a little faster! That being said if you are not someone comfortable with modding or custom ROMs then you will not be happy. The default Viewsonic version of Android is awful. You can find every thing you need at xda-developers.com to wipe that mess off and install a clean android os which will make it rock!
