Well - there are really two things that stand between me and the "want one" button:

1. Supporting NTSC/PAL is nice, but is it region-free, or can it be made region-free? http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks doesn't even have it listed....

2. Battery life? Will it last through at least a 2-3 hour flight to keep the kids busy?

I bought this about 4 years ago. It scratched every disc my kid had - turns out they were opening the top and pushing down on the disc to stop it. Deep gouges that took up to 40 cycles in a scratch remover before I could rip them (learned that lesson). The battery life was enough for a single movie. I never had any problems playing discs (originals or backups). 4 years later, it's not quite dead - it plays for around 10 mins and dies. I'd probably buy another one though.

Most of the reviews I've found are bad. A lot of people have said they had problems with the customer suppport to, although there is a number on their website. I've really wanted a portable DVD player for awhile, but I'm afraid this thing will break in no time. Even though there's a warranty, one guy said they wouldn't honor it without orginal packaging, and woot doesn't always ship it in orginal packaging... I don't know. Anyone on here have one?

Mustek may be the worst brand out there. I had two of their cameras and... didn't keep them.

I go through a lot of portable DVD players and for me, I have found that I absolutely must know what the resolution of the screen is before buying. The only portable DVD players that I've found with satisfactory resolution are Sony. (and even they have some lo res ones which blow)
I can't tell you how many times I got home only to find that the resolution was so low it reminded me of monitors from the 80's.

Does anyone know if the RCA on this is both input AND output or only just output? I would like to use something like this for a cheap monitor to some obscure decks I have that I'd rather not have to get televisions for...

@kromeleon: I use my netbook for Netflix, but unfortunately Netflix doesn't have everything streaming. A lot of the more popular movies and TV shows are DVD only.

I purchased this item and the thing hasn't worked properly from day 1! It stops and starts over at the main menu about 4 or 5 times per session. I wrote to their "customer service" and they wrote back after a couple of days and said they couldn't help me. I couldn't locate a toll free number so had to wait several more days for them to provide that! Lesson learned here and I will not buy mustek ever again. I should've done more homework on this one.
