Perfect timing, I just got $40 in gift cards.

What's a plus is that there is that $5 promotional credit for Amazon. For me, It's like getting it for free, but for everyone else, it's $40.

vote-for1vote-against

woah, this game is $45 (or probably $50 at release) .. They must have put a lot of game into that, Portal one came with two other games for $30 .. originally.. .. or was it.. $20

@sonovavondruke: This one is supposed to be much longer and has much more things to do in it. That is why it is a full retail game not an arcade game.

Plus, The cake is a lie...

It's a nice deal, a nice deal indeed... but look at us still talking when there's Science to do.

vote-for5vote-against

Oh man. I am SO TOTALLY PSYCHED for this game. Gonna get it via steam though for convenience :P

@zzzaap:

Well, I bought a $20 amazon gift card for $10 and I have a $20 credit towards a video game purchase at amazon.

Just to let everyone know, if you're considering buying. If you have multiple systems the PS3 version is going to be the way to go. Valve has stated that PS3 is going to be compatible for multiplayer with the PC version.

Also, once you register the PS3 version with Steamworks via PS3 you will get the PC version at no charge. It will be added to your Steam account and you can then download it on your PC, so essentially you are getting 2 versions for the price of 1.

@daweaves98:

Just to confirm, I also heard this (on Joystiq) a while back... apparently Valve promised Sony that the PS3 version was going to be the "best" version...

It is confirmed on the amazon site:

Product Features
Platform: PLAYSTATION 3
Free PC/Mac Digital Copy - Portal 2 for PS3 includes free access to PC and Mac versions via Steam
Cross-Platform Play for PS3 Only - Play cooperatively across PS3 and PC/Mac with cross-platform gameplay support.

Because of that, you should definitely get the PS3 version if you have a PS3... I am doing that just to encourage the inclusion of this feature on future games. I often end up buying the same game on multiple systems, unfortunately, and in this day and age, I feel that if you purchase a game on one system, it should be yours to play on any system... this is definitely a step in the right direction.

It's just like Valve to be on the bleeding edge of something like this, too... they are awesome with things like free DLC, etc.

Anyway, this cake is great.
It's so delicious and moist.

I would wait to pre-order until it becomes a group sale on Steam. They are notorious for setting up great 4 pack deals with a discount.

vote-for3vote-against

Not a bad deal, but They are not even offering release day arrival as a shipping option. Would rather do steam and get it same day :/

vote-for3vote-against

@tjmckarnen: A four pack seems unlikely, as I'm fairly certain that the only multiplayer is two-player co-op. They generally do the 4-packs on 4-player games, like Left 4 Dead and Borderlands.

If you have a PS3 you should probably get that version as it's Steamcloud compatible, and apparently, when you sign into steamcloud Portal 2 gets added to your Steam library. So, essentially, the PS3 version comes with the PC version as well.

I'm tempted to pre-order from Amazon, but I wonder if Steam will run a better deal. Additionally, does anyone know if it would be possible to buy the PS3 version, without owning a PS3 and still get the free PC/Mac version, and then resell the PS3 version?

vote-for1vote-against

@tjmckarnen: If you really want to wait a few years, feel free. It's worth it for me to get it when it comes out.

vote-for3vote-against

Don't know that I'd be too excited about cross-platform multiplayer unless you like having your a** handed to you in every single game you play. When its PC vs console the console loses badly. And btw I say this as a console only player. Pc gaming is too dam expensive!

vote-for2vote-against

If you wait for a pre-order option on Steam, they may offer some TF2 DLC.

vote-for1vote-against

I did confirm with Amazon that at this moment it isn't eligible for release date delivery. They suggested "At this time, I can only suggest that you check back on Amazon.com at a later time. If this item becomes eligible for Release-Date Delivery, that information will be posted on the item detail page." Sigh... This probably won't change my mind about pre-ordering it from Amazon... I can wait 2 days considering I have so much crap to do during the week anyway, but it's still a tough pill to swallow.

@segafanalways: I like that there is more, the first Portal was seriously lacking in amount of content.

vote-for2vote-against

@sonovavondruke: I dunno.. It didn't wear its welcome out, you know? Just right for an afternoon's gaming and homocidal AI.

But yeah, I'll wait for Steam version. I like being able to play my games on any computer I sit down at.

vote-for4vote-against

For all those people talking about waiting for a steam version, this is a Valve game. The moment you log the CD key into steam, there is no difference between buying this game from amazon or steam, except for the price. you can download it from steam any time you want after that.

vote-for3vote-against

I was already extremely excited for this game, but when I found out that Stephen Merchant did the voice work I started researching ways to put myself into a coma until it comes out so the wait will be less painful.

vote-for2vote-against

Woot, just pre ordered it. Thanks OP

vote-for2vote-against

I can't freaking wait for this. Ugh.

vote-for1vote-against

@abramokids: that's actually for playing a preview version of it at a convention or whatever

vote-for1vote-against

If you pre-order through Amazon you also get a $5 credit you can use on future purchases. If you pre-order through GameStop you can pick it up the day it comes out in the store.

vote-for1vote-against

This deal has not expired. Still available.

I'm making a not here:
HUGE SUCCESS.

It's hard to overstate my satisfaction!
