Even for car camping, these are going to be realllly borderline. That sleeping bag appears to have zero insulation, so anything under 60 degrees is going to be a stretch for it.

The camping char probably holds 150 pounds max and it WILL fall apart quickly.

The tent isn't going to be even kind-of sort-of waterproofed. It's also not likely to be very stable or durable.

I'm certainly not saying every camper needs a 400 dollar Mountain Hardwear tent. But I'm not sure I'd use these for anything other than a camping trip in my backyard.

Sometimes you really get what you pay for. I love escaping to the mountains and lakes; and here in Arizona where it's 112 in the valley and 60 up there it is soooo nice. I have got to say this stuff looks sketchy at best. I use a reasonably priced REI tent ($120) and it has held up for years. This would probably be fine for an outing or two in a nice weather perfect condition environment. Bottom line do some research before you buy camping gear (or anything).

Ozark Trail Items are really not too bad. I bought a bigger "all you need" set, and for the price, it is pretty good. I've used the tent at least 3 different times in the summer, and it has held up well, and I've been dry in the rain. The sleeping bag is pretty light weight, but the chairs are pretty good, and I'm a heavy guy (around 240 lbs).

So are there better products, yes, but for the price, and for the new to camping/ once and awhile camper, this brand can't be beat. It is a great way to start, and you can always spend more later.

I agree with @jadedmonkey. Ozark Trail isn't all that bad. No, I would not hike with this gear. No, I would not use this gear in any beyond "fair condition" weather. However, for the weekend camper and those that go to official camp sites (water, power, and showers)... this is fine. And yeah, it is a cheap buy if you want to let your kids sleep out back and still be protected from the elements. Not everything is for everybody, but most things still have a target market.

it's $40 not $400... you get what you pay for! PERFECT for kids! i have this tent(got for $32 from my local walmart) for the kids to sleep in! very easy to put together!

If this wasn't from Walmart, i might actually think of getting it.

As others have said this stuff isn't for the backcountry, but for car camping the stuff is just fine. I have an Ozark Trail mesh chair that's probably on its fourth or fifth summer without a problem. Bought a 40-60 degree Ozark trail bag from Wal-Mart yesterday and after testing it out, it will work great for warm weather camping (temps around where I live are usually upper 60's at night this time of year).

I use my Ozark Trail stuff when I know I'll be around drunk friends (or be tipsy myself). Much rather have my $10 bag trashed than my $200 Kelty bag. Yeah, it's not high class stuff, but would work for the vast majority of casual campers on a budget.

@agentbolt & @defiantblob: Never did I say this would rival a $120 or $400 tent, sleeping bag, or chair. I said this would be good to see if you like camping, if you are not one. I, myself, would not purchase this set, as I already have a nice tent, sleeping bag, and chair.

As for the "you get what you pay for" mantra is total bunk. I have a $50 Coleman Sundome tent that I have been using at least monthly for the past 12 years. I also HAVE taken some Outdoor Products gear on a 6 day backpacking trip, and it was perfect for the job, and didn't cost me an arm and a leg.

Bought it for me and my 4 year old's first camping trip. Hope all goes well :)

Bought this and it killed my dog.

OK It is not hard core camping but for the price? My dogs know how to destroy Eurekas from the outside. Good cheap deal
