This is a steal, at this price, or even the non-sale price. Le Creuset makes one of the better lines of enameled cast iron. If I just knew where in my cupboards this would fit, I would buy it. I'm mentally rearranging things right now. Hopefully they will be around for a day or two.

Got one of these for my girlfriend. I told her to get into the kitchen and make me something with it. After all, that's a woman's job, right? WRONG! I have a flat spot on my head now because of this thing... These things can handle anything, including my cast iron head.

Picked up the Round Wide 3 1/2 Quart at Williams Sonoma recently for the same price. I prefer the round shape for my burner. Great size for 2-3 people, and a GREAT product. Have used it to cook just about everything and I expect to use it for 20-30 years. A wise investment indeed.

@mbmanaus: the round is nice, but WS is $16.50 for shipping.

@carl669: Picked mine up locally so I didn't even consider shipping. It really is worth seeing the size, shape and dimensions of these dutch ovens personally. These wide dutch ovens are quite shallow so it would be a good idea to see them up close. The advantage of the shallow dutch oven is that it is easy to maneuver and sear meat, however, I prefer a taller vessel for large batches of soups and stews.

Love my dutch oven. Heat the oven to 375, put your whole chicken in, add some water and whatever seasonings/veggies..bake for 2 hrs..turn off oven. Let sit in oven another hour. Best chicken I have ever had, bar none. Easy clean up. Have no idea how I lived without it for so long. Definitely one of the best kitchen investments I have ever made.

among the best you can get.

while others race to the bottom with their celebrity chef endorsed crap, you will know your Creuset collection will last a lifetime, or three.

Although I own several of these in different sizes, (and they are EXCELLENT), Americas Test Kitchen on PBS tested many different brands of these and found a "Best Buy" that works as well as these but without the hefty price tag. They are Tramontina and are available for $39.99 plus .97¢ shipping @ Walmart, for the 6 1/2 quart. Only drawback is they are only available in red or green (I opted for the red). http://www.walmart.com/ip/Tramontina-6.5-Quart-Cast-Iron-Dutch-Oven-Red/11989387

@enantiodromia: Not quite a lifetime, or 3. One of my mom's cracked slightly.

I use my Le Creuset 6qt on the grill for the woman's chicken and veggies, keeps it nice and juicy and warm while I cook my steaks next to it. Truly amazing, best thing in my kitchen next to the 'superboil' option on my gas range.

Buy some bon-ami for cleaning these things though, the high heat and grease splatters are a royal pain in the arse to clean off otherwise.

One of the guys on NPR said that he's going to be buried with his, he loves it so much.

W-S has free shipping with code: QCGM-MZSC-RKHM Unfortunately it ends today, Sunday, May 1. I didn't find this thread until I started looking around to see if I could beat W-S's $129.95 with free shipping deal...
