As a long-time player, I can say the game has grown by leaps and bounds since the early days.

The only real serious complaint I've had is the lack of new content (missions/quests) over the past year, but much of that was due to the company being for sale, etc. A new series of missions actually launches a week from Saturday (on 2/11/12).

Free players can play any missions, and do pretty much everything paying members can do.
