HP TouchPad 9.7” 16GB Wi-Fi Tablet for $169.99 + $5.00 shipping
“It may be unorthodox, but using this tablet is vital to my client’s case, Your Honor.”
@kle11az: I think the only difference with Canada is that they allow a channel 12 on their spectrum.
USA goes to 11(like spinal tap), however you really only set that on the wifi router so the device should work fine in US or Canada.
pretty sure they all use the same 2.4Ghz and same encryption standards, possibly a newer device manufacturer may not use something like WEP, in which case you could check to see if you are using WEP and try WPA encryption instead, or temporarily turn off all encryption to test.
@kernelsandirs: Thanks for the info.
My wifi router is 2.4ghz on WPA2-PSK. When the touchpad couldn't automatically find my network I tried entering it manually. In both cases it just cycles endlessly.
To top it off, spoke to and had a chat session with US HP tech support last night. Emailed Woot as well but no response yet. Just had a chat with Canadian HP tech support and he can't help me either since I'm not in Canada. He's referring me back to US tech support.
This tablet was my boyfriend's order for 1 tablet. My orders arrived today (1 32gb, 2 16gb) so we'll charge and test those as well. Looks like I won't have enough tablets for everybody I promised after all - just curious to see if I have the problems with the new arrivals as well.
Grrr.
Per US HP tech support, there IS a difference between their tablets built for US vs. Canada. If you have a Canadian unit you have to send it in to be reconfigured. My 32gb is apparently also a Canadian unit. So received 4 tablets, but only 2 will work in the US.
Received my HP touchpad this afternoon. Package arrived in good shape, just plugged it in to give it a full charge before running thru the set-up. Hope all works well after shipping delays.
Well, I guess I am just having extra bad luck. After getting my tracking code to finally work Tuesday, it stated that it left Irving TX on Monday the 6th. Yesterday it finally updated that it was at a semi local fed-ex facility (Santa Fe Springs, and I am pretty much right in centra LA), and that it was still scheduled for delivery today. However, now I am checking it again, and no mention of where it is. It list as back in transit from Irving Tx. Oh well. With my luck its probably on its way back to Texas. :Frowny Face:
Mine arrived yesterday. Only complaint is lose wifi when I go to one side of my house. Could be my set up. Other than that, no complaints. Recommend video of box as you open and see what's inside. Virtually guarantees nothing missing. It's when you don't video that you end up with a phone book wrapped in styrofoam peanuts.
Finally got mine yesterday and everything is working well with it so far. I'm going to hold of on moving to Android until they are closer to having everything working though.
I have had to do a complete restore as it froze after about an hour of use. Hopefully no more problems. It arrived without any peripherals. I am on the phone with HP to get the missing items. HP is insisting that I fax a copy of my receipt to them. As I do not have a fax I asked about emailing it to them. He said no so I asked for his supervisor. He finally gave me an email address. HP is not very friendly. The touchpad might be okay but this might be the last HP product I ever buy.
Got my 16gb one a couple days ago, everything works, only thing i found was the little pop out that has the serial number on it won't stay in, stuck something thin along side it to wedge it in, all good now, installed Android CM9 immediately after webos finished all of its updates. Runs really nice, hope to see those crazy hackers get the video acceleration working soon, so netflix will work. :-)
Can't believe I waited this long to put android on it. Wow! What a difference - now that Netflix works with ics - I am very happy. I will wait to upgrade again when they get the camera working.
