Got one of these last time/ Very dim in normal lighting. But in a darkened (Movie theatre dark) room this is really impressive. I've rigged a 60" screen at the foot of my bed and one of these at the headboard, and have a remarkably nice display, if the lights are off.

I was just going to ask if anyone's used this and how they liked it. Good to to hear a semi-positive review from one. Anyone else have any luck with this?

Anyone know the lumens?

vote-for2vote-against

@sakupiec: what do you use it for? I wonder if I could hookk my EVO up to this and stream video and tv on my wall

vote-for2vote-against

@sakupiec: I find that reeeeeeeallly hard to believe.

@dernst_ca1:
I've got the pk101 version. I'm able to connect my Galaxy S using a 3.5 mm to composite video cable. there is some interference from the video signal in the sound. but you have the option to use external speakers in that setup ( only connect video to the projector )

Use it at work for movies cough i mean 'presentations'.

@dernst_ca1:
egg on my face.
Evo doesn't have analog out does it.
Sorry.

We purchased one for work to use with a laptop for mobile presentations. It has an extremely shallow focal length / depth of field. This was ok for presentations, video, etc but not so much with reading smaller fonts.

If you are looking for something that is extremely sharp then you might want to look elsewhere. Otherwise it works pretty well with most things.

IT FITS IN YOUR POCKET PEOPLE! I dont understand why anyone would have such high hopes for something that was obviously designed with size in mind first. I know $100 bucks is just reeking of quality beyond belief considering a reeeealy good projector is $10k + but if you are looking for something that is way portable and cheap this is for you. I think its great that in todays world we have color tv let alone something that can project it on the wall and that fits in your pocket!

I got one of these for my wife a month ago from amazon in place of a Kopykake because it would have some utility in addition to projecting images onto a cake to copy. It works nicely with the tripod mount on the bottom. I will be returning the one from amazon and ordering one here given the $60 price difference.

The cables are all very short, about 1.5 feet, for portability purposes so you may need and extension depending on how you are using it.

@ezzzzy1: I guess I expect more because if I can buy a $100 camera that takes great pictures, I should be able to buy a $100 device that projects great pictures.

I'm actually not sure why projectors are as crappy and as expensive as they are. As far as I know, all you would need to make a decent projector is:

-A good light source. LED lighting is extremely bright, compact, cheap, and efficient.
-A good image. Getting a small enough LCD in there is probably the toughest part, although LCDs are fairly cheap and of good quality.
-A good lens. Good, precision glass lens shouldn't be that hard to source, should they?

vote-for2vote-against

anybody know if this could be connected to an ipad2?

vote-for3vote-against

@Quantamm

A high quality glass lens is expensive and somewhat difficult to procure. Consider how precisely they are made to create a focal length within the parameters of the intended use, and then consider it's a glass piece that needs to be made.

You pay for high quality, especially when it comes to curved pieces of glass.

if its that simple, do it and make it a woot deal... you'll be rich! until then, the rest of us will have to understand that cameras and projectors are completely different technologies, and shouldn't be compared. this pocket projector is great for its size, and fantastic for this price!

Bought one. Can't wait to show off my pictures from my blog to family and friends

Okay, to answer my own question (kind of) because others might like to know -- I did some research, and it looks like it will work with iPad2 with the Apple iPad to vga adapter. According to Apple, it will show what's on the iPad2 screen -- which it will NOT for the 1st Gen. If you have a 1st Gen iPad, it looks like it's more complicated -- for some reason, only certain applications and videos would display at all through the same adapter.

@quantamm

LED light sources have come a long way....but they are still not that bright for a single point source (which is what's required for good daytime visibility or large images) Even the smaller home projectors are pushing 200-300 watts into the bulb to get the brighness they do. LEDs just aren't quite there yet.

3.5 mm to RCA adapters are not universal. Usually, it's just one of the set is switched about, but sometimes it is really wonky. I have one that (on my Captivate) video ground is switched with right audio signal. Just make sure that you get the right one for your toy.

vote-for1vote-against

@erinaine: You should be able to connect to an ipad2 if you get the dock connector to VGA adapter from apple for less than $30.

@pickingupjunk: 4gb mem? Does this actually act as a self-contained media player?

I think I'd have to be soooo in for one if that's the case.

I bought a very similar Optoma Pico from Woot a few months ago, and it is AWESOME! It's surprisingly bright, you can even see it in a well-lit room at 6-8 feet from the screen!

I use it to VJ guerrilla-style with my Android phone using the Pocket Looper VJ app. I just go to concerts and point it at walls, screens, even people! (Have your friend wear a white shirt and you have a mobile projection screen!)

vote-for1vote-against

@pickingupjunk: hi can you please send me a link to the cable you bought so I know what to do look for - thanks
