I just picked up a Seagate Backup Plus 2TB Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive
Item: 758312 Model: STCA2000100 For $ 45.99 plus tax. It says - Currently Out of Stock - BUT, right under that is a - Reserve and Pick Up- button. I did that for my local store (that had stock) and went and got it. Management was dumbfounded and extra stock went to them. Since this combo may not work for you, I didn't think it warranted a deal of it's own.

@klutzyruth: Thats an amazing price. Thanks.

For me to get it to work I had to use the Check in store availability option. Luckily there is store 20 minutes away that has one in stock. Thanks again.

I'm in for one: dad has been talking about getting one anyway, so merry Christmas, dad!

@klutzyruth: That's an awesome deal, but no stores have it in stock within 100 miles of me. Good find, though.

@nomadxxi: SSSSSSHHHHHHHH!! Thats my area.

I didnt do it when I first posted cause I wasnt home. Im trying now and it says it cant be reserved at this time and to try again later. NOOOOOO!

Edit It appears that maybe someone was trying to reserve one at the same time as me cause I just checked and there are only 2 left now. I was able to reserve one though.

I had bought a 1TB for my girlfriend for $75 but I'm returning it tomorrow and getting this one instead. I already have it on reserve.

After I reserved one at the Staples store and went to get it the manager said he'd received an email from Corprate that they'd made a mistake in the online ad. So it didn't work for me.

Referring to the 2TB hard drive. My local staples didn't have one in stock. but a staples 21 miles away does! reserved mine now and I think the price makes it worth the 40 mile trip. thanks for the share!

@baranphoto: whaaaaaaaaat. is anybody else having this problem?

vote-for1vote-against

@baranphoto: dang. I think I will still risk it and go once I get my confirmation.

I just got an email saying that they made a boo-boo. But, the email referenced a 3TB drive. Still, they are cancelling reservations.
Sorry, if you didn't get yours.

@klutzyruth: Well, that majorly sucks. Like they say, if it sounds to good to be true...

You would think that since its supposedly an error that they are aware of then they would remove it from their site.

I just got an email saying my 2tb drive reserve is ready for pickup. Dont know if I should risk it and go.

WOW... What a GREAT find (aka steal).

When I click on the city availability, the system states that that "feature" is not available. I've tried to refresh and to start over several times over the past 30 minutes. Soooooo, Staples must be "fixing" their booboo. Odd though that it states it's a "special buy" until December (or availability runs out). Also, my screen showed a price of $45.99; definitely a steal!

"Good for you" to those that got one! ENJOY!

@katzland: I kept getting that the "feature" was not available also. I kept trying and it finally worked.

I picked up one yesterday. After attempting to install the dashboard application it crashed my Mac on startup, whic is a very hard thing to do. Luckily I already had a WD external harddrive for backing up my files, but it still took around 6 hours to restore everything.

It seemed to work fine until I tried installing the dashboard apprilcation and restart my computer. If you don't do that you should be good.

The original deal is still good, I just bought one.

I waited til this morning to get the 2tb drive. When I woke up I had an email from Staples saying it was a pricing error. My reserve was cancelled. Too bad.

Great better than black friday price for the 500gig backup plus. Bought mine at target for 49.99; going to return it and get the staples.

vote-for1vote-against

Very strange. They have them at the Staples just up the street from me, but it won't let me reserve one. I guess I will just have to drive up there later, or call them.

Ah, the 500gb model is an online only offer.

Thanks OP - I scored two (4TB) - store staff was nice and accommodating.

My 500GB drive was delivered yesterday. It came in a plastic bag (no padding, except the invoice) and a corner of the box was crushed. Does staples hire special-ed dropouts for their online order fulfillment? I'll post pics if anyone cares.

Hopefully the box is the only thing damaged... I need to go read their return policy now to see if I need to take care of this immediately or if I can wait until after Christmas, when I will find out for sure if the drive is still good.

@trybble: Nope, it's not online-only... I picked this up last night at my local Staples, and this morning I wanted to be sure the deal had been posted here. Yep!

vote-for1vote-against

@sarianna: Originally it was online only. I had a chat session with a customer service rep who told me so. But they are out of stock online so they must have opened it up to in-store pickup.

@gillegra: I would call a local staples and ask you can exchange it.

Bought one. Had it shipped to a store near my work, and I picked it up on my lunch break. There is some seagate backup software pre-installed with some other things. After re-formatting it appears to be working pretty good. What a deal!
