Someone posted a different one awhile back where you still kept the usual 2 outlets and added 2 USB ports. It was a lot higher than this though... Clever deal and good price if you don't mind giving up one wall outlet (I suppose you're not giving it up if you used to have a USB adapter plugged in there :) )

@storbinc: That one's 3x the price and not built in.

I think I need to head over to Lowes.

@tsfisch: It does have a nice long screw on the center were you can screw it into the wall plate
It also has a "night light" along the top edge that I've covered with black tape

@tsfisch: Ohh and $29.99 is 2x the price not 3x

Looking at the photos in the link, it doesn't look like this sits flat on the wall. It looks like it comes out about 1/2" - 3/4". Also, where are the screws to hold it onto the outlet? The one that was posted before for $29.99 screwed into the outlet, like a standard plug and then had a wall plate that went over, just like a normal outlet. It looks like with this one, the device IS the wall plate. If it doesn't sit flat, this won't be very aesthetically appealing.

Edit: Duh...yes, it clearly says this plugs into your outlet, so no, it doesn't sit flat and really wouldn't be a whole lot different than just plugging in your charger. That other Power2U outlet, despite being higher priced, totally owns this one.

Can I assume picking it up in the store you obviously pay your state tax?

vote-for1vote-against

@michxelle: Unless you have a deal worked out with your state, that'd be correct. Though I'd guess sales tax will probably be less than shipping, and since Lowe's are in most states, you'll get zinged with sales tax anyway.

Yeah there are going to be better options out there, such as the sets where you can replace your entire faceplate with the USB charger and plug combo. However that's not really a good option for me in an apartment, and this one is, since I just plug it into my already existing outlet and use it that way, and don't have to worry about the stupid manager trying to zing me on move out. If you own a home and are a bit handy you might want to look at other options, but in my situation, this thing is just great.

@dazoneranger: The power2u adapter is a great concept, I just wish it came with more faceplate options. Throughout my entire house, every outlet cover is the same. It sucks how the power2u only comes in white.

I wish they would come out with a version that would include 2 outlets and 1 usb plug in the middle so that it would remain the size as the rectangular outlets currently on the market. That way any outlet cover would fit...

My local Big Lots has similar item on clearance for $8.

Any idea if this is an energy vampire always converting AC->DC even without a load attached?

BALLARD: Almost guaranteed. That's what transformers DO...

@hanks35: This one sounds like it fits your bill. Granted it cuts it down to 1 outlet/2 usb.

It is white but you can use any faceplate. Granted for you iPad junkies reviews say it will charge them, but not at full capacity.

@dazoneranger: I agree--this isn't much more useful than plugging in a two USB charger plug. Also, I'm not seeing where there's any surge protection and alot of times, I'm plugging my devices into a protected power strip so....meh on this. The Targus sounds a little better.
