In for one, thanks for the heads up.

25 cents/lb. is about the cheapest Kingsford gets. The lowest price I saw last year was 21 cents (2 x 13.9lb. bags for $5.88).

If you have a Discover card, remember to use it for 5% cash back - bringing the total price down to under 24 cents.

I can't believe I just ordered 80 pounds of charcoal...

But at this price and the plans I have this summer this deal is definitely going to help out.

This is a really good deal, but you may want to check your local Walmart as well. Last night ours had the 2x15lb packs on sale for $6.98 (23 cents a lb).

@bradriske: Same here. But you can't beat the in/out convenience at Lowes compared to Walmart. Our local Walmart is under renovation now, too.

Of course I'd rather buy anywhere but Wal-Mart.

vote-for2vote-against

If I remember it seems like Home Depot or Walmart beat Lowes price last year after they (Lowes) had published their sale. FYI, The new weekly Home Depot ad comes out tomorrow.

@bradriske: I have no doubt Walmart has better prices, it usually does but its worth $.02 a pound for me to not go to Walmart.

Plus in order for me to pick up at Walmart on the way home from work I'll be adding at least 30 min. to the drive home, whereas Lowes shouldn't add more than 5 or 6 min.

This deal last year made my life so much easier after I was without power for 10 days after Sandy.

Everyday barbequing breakfast, lunch and dinner. Went through 4 bags. Now I will resupply with 8 bags just to be safe.

vote-for6vote-against

In case you or a member of your family qualifies, Lowes gives a 10% discount to members of the military and to anyone who has proof of being a veteran.

@plex49: "Everyday barbequing breakfast, lunch and dinner." Oh to be so lucky! Sans hurricane of course.

vote-for3vote-against

Comparing the evils of Walmart to the evils of Lowes is like comparing Stalin to Hitler. Just go for what is more convenient. They both treat workers like absolute crap and funnel money away from your town.

vote-for5vote-against

@mckennaj: Or to anyone who heads to the post office for a paper change of address form. Their 10% coupon is always among the ones stuffed into the form packet.

BAM! 160 lbs of beer can chicken fuel.

@shadowzero26: All of a sudden I went from feeling like I'm going to have too much charcoal to feeling like I may not have ordered enough...

vote-for10vote-against

Just bought 26 sets....52 bags!!! Now let the grilling begin!! Also used the following coupon code (not sure if it will work again)...$25 off a $250 dollar purchase. Code 470004433276198

If that doesn't work remember that they give a 10% military discount....or just go to your local post office for a change of address form and that includes a 10% Lowes coupon inside!!

vote-for6vote-against

@pzelaskowski: And now I really don't feel like I ordered enough...

vote-for5vote-against

@tugboatobb: Last year I bought about 10 sets and i ran out about a month and half ago...So i rather stock up especially with all the smoking and grilling we do.

vote-for4vote-against

@tugboatobb: Hahahaha!!!! Just get one more bag than him

vote-for2vote-against

@baised: Tempting, the price is right I just don't want to have to store 1/2 a ton of charcoal. I enjoy grilling out, I just don't think I'll be grilling enough to justify that much charcoal.

That being said, buying that much could be the kick I need to try out smoking...

vote-for2vote-against

@pzelaskowski: Darn. I already made my purchase. Had I seen this earlier I would have joined the military first... or went to the post office, whichever was easier.

vote-for2vote-against

dang, i just bought a 15lb bag of kingsford mesquite and a 15lb bag of hickory at my local Albertsons grocery store today for 6.99 a bag...ill definitely go to Lowes tomorrow and pick this up anyway...its too good to pass up...thanks for the info!!!!

I walked into Lowes, threw 2 of these 40 lb sets into my cart and went up to the cashier. I asked him if he would allow me to come back in and buy another two bags since the sale says limit 2 per customer. He looked at me funny, and then I asked him "You had no idea that there was a 2 per customer limit, did you?" He looked back and said "Not a clue".

He still had no problem with me coming back in and going through his line again. 160 lbs of coal now sits in my garage.

@mickster1245:
Will stop at H/D on my way to Lowes to check their $$, and see which one I'll stock up 4 bags -
Even in Oregon, we can only cook out doors 6 times if we're lucky -
Does charcoal ferment with age ?? :)

vote-for2vote-against

Search online for 10% off codes. I found one after 5 minutes that has not been used yet.

vote-for2vote-against

Home depot's deal is the same. 40 lbs for $9.88

vote-for1vote-against

I wonder if lowes will match and beat home depots price by 10%... save almost an extra buck.

vote-for1vote-against

@omnichad: Thanks for reminding me. I forget about the shop Discover 5% cash back. Instead of going to the store and buying it, I just ordered online and will get $1 cash back. I still pick it up at the same store.

Since there is a 2 bag limit, after I pick this order up, I'm going to another Lowes that is across the street from a Home Depot. Between the two stores I'll get my car loaded up with a years supply of charcoal.

vote-for1vote-against

I ordered 10 sets (400lbs) online and selected in-store pickup, no hassles and no 2-bag limit as displayed in-store. Set till January at least...
