I have the green version and it's actually pretty good.

One thing to note is that it sets up the PS3 controls in an Xbox 360-style layout on a controller a bit larger than a Gamecube controller. I personally hate the PS3 controller layout (not ergonomic for me), so this made playing games on our PS3 MUCH better.

As for the lighting features, they actually work quite well. The light-on-vibrate setting is actually pretty accurate and only lights up if the controller vibrates beyond some level (i.e. doesn't light up when there are very small vibes) which is good IMO.
