What can you tell me about black diamonds? They look stunning but I'm not familiar with them. Thanks.

vote-for5vote-against

Black diamonds are genuine diamonds treated with radiation to make their color appear black. Under normal lighting conditions the color enhanced "black" diamond looks black. However, it is actually very dark green. To observe the very dark green color, a fiber-optic light source can be placed near a thin edge of the diamond (such as the girdle or culet). This allows the light to illuminate some of the interior of the stone. The very dark green color that becomes visible is commonly seen in enhanced black diamonds.

Can somebody explain to me why this deal is getting so many down votes? What does everybody know that I don't?

vote-for6vote-against

Seems awfully cheap. I would expect that they use inferior grade diamonds, the imperfections being hidden by the color. That being said, who cares? Either you want a black diamond or you don't.

Yeah a+ rating on bbb doesn't really mean anything neither does being accredited on bbb. Take a look at this:

@jevl: Dear jevl, Thank you for your feedback. Many ecommerce sites use (BBB) it as a reference of their company , and since this is our first time on woot.com, we do want to let the audience know we are a legitmate business and not a startup. We do work hard to establish that rating.

In response to that post. Buyers online do have their own judgement. We offer a 100% No Questions Money Back Policy and he decided to file a fraud report instead. We do have no control over it, but we do strive in customer service and have no problem refunding if buyer is not happy. We don't charge restocking fees, we don't say no in any customer request. Thank you.

@clicious: Thank you for your post. I would like to know this as well. As this is our first time on woot.com, we would really appreciate any response with the negatives. Thank you

@earl wajdyk: Thank you for your post. Definitely the diamond will have imperfection, but the face of the black diamond is clean with no chips/no inclusions. This is a good quality black diamond and sold elsewhere online for a much higher price. Thank you

My guess is that many of the downvotes are because it is an auction site, rather than traditional sale site. I was surprised to see that it was an auction site. I do appreciate that they list the color, clarity, carat weight, cut, & type of metal very clearly on each listing, but I personally would rather outright purchase than bid. I did look online and the prices do appear to be good deals. Their full retail estimates are probably pretty close, but they are full retail estimates. I don't know many people who would pay full retail for jewelry.

@shampshi: Thanks for your post. It is an auction site, however the listing is for outright purchase (buy it now) at $149.00. Thank you

@eurajews - what clarity are these stones? I'm guessing i2-i3.

vote-for1vote-against

am i missing where they state the size of the ring?

vote-for3vote-against

IMO, this is an excellent buy! I own black diamonds, though they're all set in gold. Opted to buy this one early this AM. Didn't even know the ring size; guessed it was the usual 7. Am anxious to get this beauty. 2.5 carats is a large solitaire! Also, the clarity of a black diamond really is not that important. You'll not notice any flaws. A nice ring to wear every day & not worry about. Excellent for travelling, too.

Hope you have success w/woot!. Sorry about all the down votes, that seems to happen here when people are not familiar w/the site & or product. ...And what a bargain it is! Thanks for the listing.

So actually black diamonds are not irradiated regular diamonds, but diamonds with a different crystalline structure. Could you explain this?
