i am a man, please explain the scale of quality of sheets?

Thread count is the number of horizontal and vertical threads in one square inch of fabric.
In general, the higher the thread count, the softer the fabric feels,

@crycis805: 150 count - like canvas, 200-250 - tolerable, 300, pretty soft feeling, 500 - 'hotel' grade, really nice.
I have a set of these, they're...OK

Any deals on some really nice sheets?

Sleeping on some Jersey Cotton (feels like a Abercrombie tshirt) on my college Twin XL bed.

200? that's like sleeping on sandpaper as far i'm concerned.

Wal-mart brand sheets. I'd rather sleep on construction paper.

Insomnia here we come with these sheets! Seriously, does anyone WANT a thread count less then 500? Crazy! I don't care how cheap they are. Yech.

@jgmcgowan: You can find good deals on sheets at Costco, Kohls and Overstock.com 500 thread count or above is really what you want. And if there is no thread count listed, there's a reason and it's not good.

Also, I prefer Cotton NOT Sateen. Sateen are kind of slickery. Cotton only are just plain soft. Got some queen size 600 t.c. Cotton sheet sets from Kohls for only $45.

not tue, some very high end italian sheets that sell for 1to 2 thousand bucks dont have thread count info. on the details. Also anything higher than 500 is actually a double layer as the sheets cant be made into a larger number per square inch. Not to say that 600 ,or 800 thread count isnt great because it is. Also just opinion but one spends much time in bed. Getting the best sheets, pillows and comforters is worth the splurge. I wouldnt pay thousands but I have purchased great sheets at Ann's and Homegoods. And there is a site called onekingslane.com that has some great items for discounts of up to 90% off.

@thericochet, Yes Mainstays = Walmart brand = cheap = feels like sandpaprer, or at best public toilet paper layed 20times!
But Walmsrt = Canopy brand, feels pretty good. Not sure what count ours are, but I love them, they got to be at least 300, maybe 500, didn't pay more than $50 for a king set (4 pillow cases, 2 sheets & dust thinggy).

Aziz has warned me to avoid Hotel Luxury Linens, but 200 thread count is awful no matter what. Enjoy sleeping in a haystack.
