Hey, @morriea. You seem to be pretty knowledgeable about computers. I'm looking for a smaller size laptop (like this one), I don't do much of anything but check my gmail, surf the web and a little word processing. I use Chrome as my browser and really like it.

Have you used one of these or know of anyone else who has? This looks like a good price for a refurb.

@barnabee: This is a great price. Do you have access to WiFi most of the time? That is probably the biggest thing to consider on a device like this. Although you can do basic word processing, it will be mostly with Google Drive. This is basically Cloud Computing (although you can work offline). Checking email and surfiing the web are a breeze with this. This would not work for me (I live in the middle of nowhere and have to use satellite internet, which is limited to 25GB/ month before throttling).

As far as this being a refurb, it is Acer Factory Direct, so feel confident that if there is a problem, support will be there. Truthfully, a Chromebook is designed for your type of use if WiFi is not an issue.

@morriea: Well, I bought one. After reading a few more reviews, I think it's exactly what I need (WiFi is no problem). Thanks for the advice and for helping me spend my money :)

Amazing deal, if you're the average computer user this is all you need as long as you have regular access to wifi. The only negative to this particular model is that is has a mechanical drive versus the typical solid state drive that makes surfing the internet much faster. I never did understand the 320GB hard drive in the Chromebook, given that it is a cloud based device. Also, as per this unit being refurbished...I would go that route anyway on this particular model, as brand new units have a defect with the power jack and what you'll be getting is likely a unit that failed due to this and was repaired (and reinforced) at the factory. I can't say enough about Chromebooks, they continue to impress me and I'm a PC vendor...might have to change day jobs.

Anyone know if this includes the 100 GB google drive storage? Couldn't tell from the auction.

@invar9: did you ask the seller through the auction? I am sure they will answer, but it may not be in time. (at this price, is that a deal killer if not?)

This is a pretty good deal.

I bought this brand new and I have no issue whatsoever. Everyone in my family has a gmail so we have 5+ profiles on there and they're all personalized. It's great for surfing, watching videos, Google docs. I recommend it for everything except hardcore gaming which it can't handle.

Best part is the security and ongoing updates thanks to Google, and the almost insta-boot.

If this didn't have the 100GB Drive space or GoGo flight freebies I would reconsider it myself since I enjoy my cloud storage

I have one of these that I bought when they first came out late last year for $199. It's great. Nice keyboard, screen's pretty good considering the size. Only real issue is that with the small battery that was standard with the first generation, battery life is merely okay. But it recharges quickly, and where I most often use it (the library) there are outlets all over the place anyway. And for under $200 it's an awesome piece of hardware.

Don't know much about these. Will my kids be able to Netflix, youtube and play Angry birds with it?
Thank you in advance.

@phantomcanes: If you do those things via your browser, yes.

Anyone know if you can play games on sites that require Flash player on these Chromebooks? Thx!

Can anyone tell me if this would be a good gift for kids (ages 10 and 6) to play on? They stream videos via utube, play games (basic stuff, like angry birds and Kizi)? Looking fore something that's low cost, but fast enough for them to play on. THANKS SO MUCH!

@shupton: Yes, I have one of these in my 4 year old daughter's room. She loves it and plays games, watches My Little Pony on Netflix, and takes funny pictures with the camera. Great little computer for the money and I paid full price.

This is a steal for Chrombook.

@morriea I tried to ask the seller about the google drive storage, but when I tried to submit, "the seller is not accepting questions on this item" ??????? that is why I came back here.....

I wouldn't worry too much about the extra 100 gb of storage. Everybody gets at least 15 gb of storage on google drive anyway - which is a lot for everything but multimedia. I use the 320 gb hard drive to carry all the mp3s and video I am ever likely to want portable. All my actual work I store in the cloud, but I'm nowhere close to 15 gb for that.

Mine came today and is missing the little cover in the front that protects the SD Card slot. It is in the pics. I know this is a refurb but I partly feel this is something they could have included or they just messed up.
