refurbed -- I almost got one of these back at Christmas time... but decided against it after reading about problems with the systems needing SD cards to be added to run properly
Really bad reviews over on Amazon....
Bad reviews due to whistling noise coming from the speakers for alot of people. Someone said to use bigger gauge wire than the 20 gauge it comes with. Any audio savvy people confirm this prior to me taking any chances?
OMG it has an iPod dock! Huge selling feature!
Wow, good info guys. I will now walk instead of run to my nearest deal. Refurbished item, buy with eyes wide open.
@epixinc: Word is these have been refurbished and the whistling issue should have been addressed as part of that process.
If I didn't buy a system from Woot already, I would now.
tempting... this price makes this seem really worthwhile, refurb or not.
Thanks for all the info, I am in for 1 and hope it will be one with issues addressed. Thanks again
I purchased a LG HTIAB Refurb (not this model though) a few months back and I have been quite happy with it. My stupid roommates even dropped something very heavy on it (huge dent in it the week after I purchased it) and it still works just fine. The only complaint I have is that the rear speakers are REALLY weak. The front speakers sound great (although it takes a bunch of tinkering with the setting to get it how you want it) thats about all I have to say about this since mine was a different model.
Perhaps I got bad info, but I have been told that 4 ohm systems can't offer high-end sound. 8 ohms is supposedly what you want for anything that you expect to have dynamic range, and crisp sound.
Is this true?
I'd love to be wrong, 'cause this is a very low price for such nice features and high wattage.
I'm confused, or missing something here... The Woot description includes "Wi-Fi" and says "Netcast lets you stream ... direct to your TV from the Internet, no computer required", but I don't really see anything else that indicates Wi-Fi is built into this unit (including Woot's picture of the packaging). To confuse matters more, the Amazon description of the same unit doesn't include anything about "Wi-Fi" either. Does anyone know if this one has wireless capabilities built-in, does it require a "dongle", or does the streaming depend on connecting directly with a LAN connection, etc?
Might buy one if there is more truth to the claim that refurb means that audio issue was fixed. That seems to be the main complaint on these on Amazon and Cnet
If I buy this, are the speakers used only for bluray and streaming content delivered through the player? Or is there a way to use them when watching regular TV and video games as well?
Does this one have WIFI? I saw on Amazon that it does not....
i don't see anything at all on the MFG documentation that says this has any kind of WIFI connection. You should see a bump or something on the picture on the rear that has the wifi antenna. There should be mention somewhere about whether its wireless B/G/N.
Here is the mfg's page for the owners manual and specs on the Support tab. http://www.lg.com/us/tv-audio-video/home-theater-systems/LG-home-theater-system-LHB335.jsp
@ozob: thanks for the link ... found an answer there from LG "staff" regarding WIFI use on this model: "The LHB335 only has a wired connection to the internet." I think Woot should probably update their description and remove that...
http://reviews.cnet.com/home-theater-systems/lg-lhb335/4505-6740_7-33995806.html cnet says it has wi-fi
@uskrewed: actually, it says 535 and 975 have it over the 335: "The biggest change from LG's 2009 Blu-ray HTIB offerings is that both the LHB535 and LHB975 include integrated Wi-Fi"
@uskrewed: No it doesn't, it actually states the opposite.
Just make sure you see reviews on some sites. For example look for something that looks like this on Amazon (because I didnt see the model number on here) and you'll see poor reviews. Maybe a better way is to just save some money and buy a really quality system later
So...where is the Wi-fi one?...
@uskrewed: CNet says wired not wifi

Bought this set Summer of 2010 and still love it. I have the whistling noise issue, but it's very faint and is gone within 5 minutes it seems. I'm a bit OCD about electronics and frequently forget about it. Speakers are strong, though the subwoofer is nothing notable. The iPod dock works great with iPhone 4 and there is no interference.
It doesn't have wifi - but it has a port for a LG wifi adapter. The cheaper route to take it to grab a wifi-to-ethernet adapter on amazon and just set that up. Netflix and Vudu come highly recommended.
Favorite thing: It has a powered USB port at the front so you can plug in a harddrive with movies and watch within seconds. It read every format I threw at it.
Hated thing: LG refuses to update the software to include things like Hulu plus or updates to its apps. I know this is a bit unrealistic to expect, but knowing how easy it would be to do it does upset me a bit. I bought this when it was still $450 afterall.
Re: wifi -- I think the idea is you could plug it into your wireless router and then access your harddrive from there or something? lol
I'm starting to like the idea of getting this more -- the USB port sounds great, could move my ext HD over (currently have HDMI from PC to TV, could skip that step). Like that I could toss my iPod on it to charge rather than connecting to PC
@rcpma2011: That's too bad. I was hoping bluray players would all eventually upgrade to include compatibility with HBO-GO someday soon. I hardly ever use Netflix or the others. Thanks for a solid review though!
Oops, misread that CNET review. I should still get points for posting it though :P I wonder why Woot has it listed as wi-fi?
I have this exact system and couldn't be happier with it. They didn't include wifi with this model when I bought mine. The newer versions of this model come with a USB dongle that plugs into the USB port in the back that takes care of the wifi connection.
I bought this last year with my 55" LED TV.
I love the playback. I have had no audio issues. Love streaming Netflix and Pandora through this. (I can even do it through my tv ;))
Even if this is refurbished, it is well under half the price I paid for mine.
Are the smaller speakers wireless. Will there be unsighly cords connecting everything together?
YES IT DOES HAVE WiFI - I know cause I use it. And YES IT DOES HAVE CRACKLING/WHISTLING PROBLEMS but they can be fixed with heavy gauge quality wires - not the junk supplied with it. Support denies there is anything wrong but they are full of $hit. When it works though it really works well and is a nice system.
If you buy wire, don't waste your money on monster wire. Just get regular zip cord.
@rcpma2011: The best streaming services blu-ray players offer are going to be Netflix, Amazon and the like. Roku and PlayOn will provide what you are looking for and MORE.
We're going to give it a shot. Bought the 42" TV they had up a few weeks ago. Really happy with that. So maybe we'll be happy here. Comeon Woot.
I'm sorry, but I STILL can't find ANYTHING about Wi-Fi with THIS model. The LG LH535 supports Wi-Fi and that's one of it's up-selling feature versus the 335. This one does NOT have Wi-Fi included!
We own a model similar to this (with the tall set of speakers). Bought it refurbed from the newegg.
Within the first week, the remote stopped working. Took the company 3 months to send me a new one (they lost my claim somewhere in their online system).
It was our first Blu Ray player and we switched to Blu Ray from netflix. ALOT of them didn't play and I kept sending them back as damaged (assuming other people destroyed them). After a while (4 months?), DVDs wouldn't play at all and Blu Ray were still 1 in 10. Then it stopped playing Blu Rays all together.
The LG 5.1 Blu Ray package we got was such a disappointment, that we won't put another LG product in our home.
A good discount in comparison to the original price. Keep in mind, however, that when you buy a $160 to $250 home theater system, you tend to get a $160 to $250 home theater system.
@darklegion00: The packaging photo doesn't list wi-fi and the packing list doesn't either. However, given that Woot mentions wi-fi several times I would trust them to make good on delivering.
dude this a awesome deal i paid 300 this thing rocks and for 165 u get a bluray wifi and apps most bluray players with wifi are 130 you ppl are stupid if u dont pick this up
@autryld: absolutely. my complaint was that LG included Hulu Plus in their new players with a new draft of their software. so it just boils down to a tactic to encourage you to keep spending. makes sense from a financial standpoint, it's just rather soulless. not surprised, just discouraged.
i will say that before the new models were announced and january, LG did add several services to this system. not sure about the system from here on out. still a great value though!
@mrdead72: I think it looks like a good deal. I'm sure others do too. I already own equivalent or better equipment so I'm not buying it. I would be careful about throwing out the word "stupid".
I would probably buy this, if it had actually had wifi, as a gift for a family member. Oh well.
@everyone asking about wi-fi - there's a picture of the back side of this unit and it has a "LAN" port labeled. There is no indication here, or on any of the other pages I looked at indicating wireless capability for this model.
CNet Review has pretty detailed specs and indicated wired only.

I have this machine and it's not worth the money. My first one the blu-ray/dvd drive went bad and got it repaired under warranty. My second one will ocasionally forget about a speaker channle and not play sound out of it. I spent alot of time rebooting it so i have have all 5.1 surrounds ound again. The netflix interface on this machine is horrible (alot like the old ps3 disk interface). The whistle problem was fixed in newer/refurb modles but just be warned this machine is not a good deal.
It does not appear that this will accept a second set of speakers for the patio (where you can turn off one set -inside - and have the outside on (or visa versa). Am I correct ?
I bought this same setup just over a year ago. It is not wireless capable, and it does have the whistling noise, although it's not loud enough to be bothersome to me. I can only really hear it when the player first starts before any audio starts playing. The only real problem I have is that the sound occasionally cuts off for no reason, and I have to change audio inputs to get it back. Occasionally means sometimes I'll go a couple of months without it happening, sometimes it happens daily for a few days. LG said they never heard of that problem, and it doesn't happen often enough to go through the hassle of getting a new system. So yes, the system does have issues, but it's not a bad deal for this price. The actual playback and sound is pretty good.
@arbdef: That reminds me.. We still use this system as a surround sound system (ours has 2 HDMI inputs). Unfortunately, as reported by arbdef, we find ourselves rebooting the device a lot after switching HDMI inputs (loses sound).
Agreed about the craptastic Netflix interface. This netflix integration also is incapable of playing a percentage of Netflix streaming. The last time we used it, with 90+ in our queue, we were only able to play 60ish of those. Thankfully we own plenty of gaming consoles to watch Netflix from.
@imfrombigd: It does not. That would be a 7.1/7.2 system.
There is a wifi usb dongle for the LHB335. Tiger Direct sells them together as a packaged deal for $359.95. I would assume that Woot is including the dongle in their deal as well. Perhaps they are just trying to avoid drawing attention to the fact that the system requires an external device for wifi.
