Can you root these? I thought that it was no longer possible to do so. If so, anyone have a link to a walkthrough?

@crab: I don't see anything about not being able to root them anymore - Check out this link: http://androidforums.com/nookcolor-all-things-root/352768-nook-color-rooting-rom-guide-read-me-first.html

That's got guides for all versions of the B&N ROMs including the latest (1.4.1) on how to root them.

This is a sweet deal, but keep in a mind a newer one is about to be released. So if you care about having the latest greatest...

Keep in mind a Color and a Tablet are two different devices. The bootloader for the Tablet is not cracked at this time. An 8G tablet is $199 retail right now. The older model Color is fully cracked and is still a good tool. In fact many prefer it because of it's virtual unbrickability.

@crab I just did one last night/today, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1443292 Go for 7.2.

The comment that I left just above with the link is true, but Yahoo! move the story and the link is no longer valid. Actual retail on the Nook Color is now $169. This is the price that will be available at all retailers.

B&N did just release the Nook Tablet with 8GB(1/2 the amount of the 249. model) for 199.

I prefer the microSD card MOD of the Color (up to 32GB). Running an Android Tablet with CyanogenMod while leaving the reader intact is the best of both worlds. If using a class 2 or 4 card and overclocking I see no difference in speed.

Here is another link to a story...

I have had mine for 8 months or so and rooted. 32gb Sandisk microsd, and it's amazing for reading comics, playing games, and basic web browsing. Works with netflix too.

Thanks for the comments. I had thought about getting the tablet, then saw all sorts of comments from other users that B&N had locked it down so that you couldn't root it. Assumed they had done the same w/ the color; apparently not.
