@natewadman: All I have to say is WOW! That is one heck of a combo for stackable coupons! And even better - it applies to the whole Alienware line...
Just gonna mention that Dell stated that i3, i5, and i7 processors are coming to the M11x soon. You might be able to find a better deal on this model around that time, or maybe you'd prefer the newer procs.
If you are getting this for work, and do a bunch of intensive computer drafting or art, then the higher end procs may be good to wait for. If you intend to use this for gaming (as most Alienware purchasers do) the videocard will be the bottle neck before the processor. Damn videocards age twice as fast as any other piece of hardware sadly.
This doesn't work for me...it tells e it doesn't work for this segment.
so iI'm assuming you need to sign in to use these coupons...
why would anyone want a gaming laptop that has an 11.6 inch screen, the concept boggles my mind
@kingsofa: What's easier than a 11.6 inch netbook for a LAN party where space is limited?
man i really do want one of those things... but it would just be an irresponsible purchase for me =\ trying to pay for school and all... damnit life sucks.
@bernyk I feel your pain. I applied for the Dell credit just for fun and actually got approved for $2000...I shouldn't have done that. I'm in such a dilemma now. I've wanted an Alienware for years, just haven't been able to afford it.
This is an amazing deal! I just bought a PC from Dell using some Aafes coupons etc; I am about to buy this as well to upgrade my laptop... Perfect for playing on STEAM while at college using my HTC Evo 4G!
I tried the 21% off coupon on both the 11 and 15 Alienware models. While logged into Dell's site, which you need to do according to Dell, it worked for neither.
As far as I can tell, this does not work.
Oh well, as much as I wanted one, I really can't afford it ATM.
@nothing7780: It worked perfectly for me just now. All 3 codes applied correctly, giving me the $704 price with free shipping in my cart. I didn't go through with the purchase, because I don't need a laptop replacement right now. Almost wish I needed one :)
Follow the link to the dell website and all of the codes will work, if you go to the site without following the link the codes will not work.
Alienware comps are a waste of money, you are paying for a name and not the computer.
a $3000 AW should only cost about $1700 MAX
If an alienware is sold on Dells website, then that means you are just buying the name now. Alienware used to be a big deal, but not so much with Newegg and Tigerdirect coming in. You can build a better pc for less now, or have someone build you one...
@jman420
Yes Dell bought the Alienware Franchise but they have no direct involvement in the making of the Alienware computers. They're still manufactured at the original Alienware locations, using original Alienware parts. Alienware has made it very clear that Dell has continued to let them run their operations as they always have.
I agree about building a desktop for less, but this is a LAPTOP. Laptops are much harder to build, much less a 12" one with dedicated graphics. I do build my desktops, and my parent's, and my grandparent's, and my sibling's....
This is a desktop replacement type laptop, in portable form (how awesome is that?). I wanted one when they first came out, but decided to build a new desktop instead.
I, however, cannot afford this. It would be a nice replacement for my dell mini 9 I have, but I just dropped $700 on summer classes (dang summer semester is so expensive!)
Ahh yes, about paying for the name.
It is true... especially for desktops. Show me another laptop with these specs for this price and I'll give you two thumbs up though... and that's what really matters
Just keep in mind that even with the discounts you are paying twice as much. Alienware are extremely overpriced computers.
I bought the m17x about 4 years ago. The motherboards/harddrives died about 9 days after the year warranty was up.
Now I just get the most expensive HP laptop at BestBuy and it's still 1/4th the price of an Alienware with similar specs. Laptops are disposable anyway. Why buy for the name.
It's like buying a pair of name-brand jeans at Macy's... seriously, just get a pair of Levi's from Kohls.
Man, thats a good deal. A friend of mine got one of these recently, a pretty impressive little laptop. You can switch back and forth from the integrated graphics and the dedicated Nvidia card. You can go into the bios and enable the overclocking option to bump the cpu to 1.73GHz (up from 1.3GHz). It feels nice, and looks cool to boot.
Ok, thanks Flayswatter, I did get the 11" model to work thru that link. Can you actually somehow do it with the 15" like the first or second posted said?
@leitchm: it doesn't matter if you can build one or not, there are better, faster cheaper gaming laptops for half as much...and alienware was trash before dell bought it. same gos for dell, they have always had trash computers.
@sonicmouse: Ok, so what other 11 inch gaming laptop am I going to get? Even without a coupon it runs in at 900-1000. Sure you can get a specwise comparable laptop for 100 less, but for some, you just can not beat the size. Not to mention, it has insane battery life potential because you can switch over to the integrated video card without a system reboot.
@alphaiomega: I've been in the market for a new laptop for a month or so, and I've looked pretty extensively. The cheapest reasonable gaming laptop I was able to find ran in at $830. Anything below that just does not have the video card to even be considered a gaming laptop. Now, I could be wrong, but this was after looking at many sites for upwards of 5-6 hours.
P.S. Sorry for the double post, but I have to defend just how amazing this deal is if a gaming laptop is what you're looking for.
@arosiriak: The discounts aren't even limited to the Alienware line. The 21% is for any system (or maybe any items at all?), free shipping is for systems over $699, and $100 off is for systems over $999. You can build any $1000 system and get it for $690 with these coupons.
This is an awesome deal- I wish I had the cash for another laptop.
Right now I have a 17" with pretty good specs, but it's heavy and doesn't have as nice a video card.
While the 11" screen is a bit small to game on, it would still work, would be light (so easier to carry around), and could be hooked up to an external display when one is available.
806$ with the upgraded hard drive, you gotta get up to 7200 to make it worth while and 500GB is an added bonus. This is a pretty good deal, I've been looking for a high end laptop I could CUDA out on.
to bad the coupons dont work
Coupons worked for me - used the link at top next to "I Want One" @ configure.us.dell.com (full link is a whole lot longer, just click it!)
I clicked the Dell logo at top and chose a 17" Studio, tricked it out with a touch screen. Total=$1600, final price after coupons=$1200.
I signed in, built, added to cart, copy paste, click apply, nothing happens? Please tell me I'm not that ignorant?
The Coupons worked for me as well. If you want to play almost any game out there, on the road most importantly, pick this up. Almost a tricked out netbook with the high end graphics.
There are options to add more HD space or even a ssd, but wouldnt it be cheaper if you added it separately and installed it yourself, for instance, an upgrade to 500gb 7200 rpm hd was I believe $150, but under the accessories tab, a 2.5 500gb dell HD is selling for $115. To add a 120gb ssd its an extra $500! You can get a 64gb ssd on there website for $169.
In case you missed it above, these things are going to be getting Intel i3/i5/i7 in the near future. more here: http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/22/alienware-m11x-getting-intel-core-i3-i5-i7-upgrade-next-mont/
Also, there's a rumor that they'll also be getting Nvidia Optimus technology in the Fall: http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/25/four-more-major-laptop-manufacturers-will-use-nvidia-optimus-by/
Personally, I need a new compy, so in spite of those drawbacks, I might bite on this. Pretty good deal IMO.
When I saw the videos from CES with this puppy...I just drooled. A high performance netbook and apparently the battery life is 8 HOURS??
Alas....gaming laptops are not really my thing. If I am on vacation or out on the go whats the point (besides the lan party point)
@tialnpvd: You can switch vid cards without a reboot? How do you do that?
@tygress: Switching from Intel video to Nvidia video is a simple as pressing Fn+F6. Want long battery life? Stay with the integrated Intel video processor. Want performance for gaming? Switch over to the Nvidia GPU with the push of two buttons. Add the built in overclocking option in BIOS (reboot required, obviously) and you've got a great gaming platform.
@klaatu1721: Interesting. I have a Macbook Pro and while it also has a video card and onboard video that can be swapped, switching between them is considerably less intuitive and does require a restart. (Not wanting to get into a Mac vs. PC discussion - just telling you where I'm coming from.) Thanks for the info. I have considered getting a PC laptop for gaming and this definitely makes the idea of getting one more appealing.
not only are the newer, more efficient i-series processors getting put into this thing soon, nVidia's Optimus graphic-switching tech is supposed to be added as well. This is a great deal, and I'd jump on it if the only improvement made on the next refresh was the processor, but the Optimus tech alone makes it worth waiting.
This WILL be mine when Alienware puts Optimus in the m11x. Perfect for your everyday machine, and it can handle anything you throw at it when you want to play (and hook it up to your big screen when the tiny screen isn't suitable).
What you got to do if you want to add the discounts to another computer is make one with the like then add it to the cart, next click on the dell logo in the top left and build another computer, and it add the discounts to the new one, then just update the old computer to "0" and update and the discounts stay on the new one.
I still cant get the 21% coupon to work. I've made the laptop, I've added it to cart, I've signed in, what else do I need to do?
coupons r not working anymore :S sigh
@Kember all but the 21% works. the 21% one is applied, but I get this:
"The following coupons have been entered but require additional information or do not meet eligibility requirements. Click "View Details" link(s) for more information." which if you click on view details gives: "Coupon is good with select other promotions, but not with other coupons. Not valid for resellers and/or online auctions or electronics and accesories."
I mean that is a good price IF it was like a 15 inch screen!! its only and 11 inch!!
@alderuen: yes thats the same thing i get, meaning that it doesnt work anymore :S, yesterday, I tried and it worked... but today, its like (mod edit: profanity) :S
It does not work for me either. It looks like Dell added a certain promotion this afternoon that did not allow the 21% off coupon to work.
yeah I got the $100 off and free shipping but I can't get the 21% :(
guess I'm out.
