Anyone have any experience with these? Wondering how well they really work.

They work pretty good. You get lots of blues and greens in the fire. We used to get them at a local dollar store, till they closed.
But, once you toss one or more of these on your fire, do not cook food over it after that.

We used them a few weeks ago. It says to just throw the whole packet into the fire, but we found that if you open it and sprinkle it on top it works a lot better. You have to use a few packs to get it to look like the picture.

Also it looks/feels/says it's deadly Chinese chemicals in a packet... So don't roast marshmallows or breathe to heavily near it. That being said, I'm in for 2!

Heavy Metals are what are causing the flames to turn colors in many cases... so hence the warning about breathing in the fumes / cooking over them. Never the less, I'm also in for two packs of 12. Should add a little color to the weekend camping trip ... :)

Do it yourself option: colored flame can be accomplished by adding some household materials to fire, like table salt or epsom salts - see http://chemistry.about.com/b/2013/07/06/colored-fire-where-to-find-metal-salts.htm for DIY ideas

A good Fireplace store has the "sprinkles" and like it has been said, uses metals to create colors. Lithium chloride burns carmine, Strontium chloride burns red, Calcium chloride burns orange, Sodium chloride burns yellow, Copper sulfate burns green,
Copper chloride burns blue, Potassium chloride burns purple, and magnesium sulfate burns white.
DON'T breathe the fumes or cook while burning as metals get into foods. If you use indoors, perfectly safe as long as the flue works properly.

These things are pretty cool. But as some have said, multiple packets are required to get your fire to look like the pics or video. You can open them up as well, and sprinkle it where you want. But tossing a few packs will really add that effect.

Needless to say, it is a good deal. Upvoted here, and just bought three 12-packs for under $30 shipped. Amazon sells one 12 pack for $20, free ship only with Prime.
