This tried to offer me this as well, but I declined. Might return when Gears Of War 3 comes out.

vote-for2vote-against

I wasnt on auto subscription but they gave it to me for $10 charged this month and $30 charged next month for a total of 12 months for a total of $40. Thanks !

vote-for2vote-against

Just did this and got the 39.99 price locked in. Great stuff, my account was due to expire in 2 days!

vote-for2vote-against

Just did it, they charged me 39.99 though. still cheapter than 60 bucks. great find.

vote-for2vote-against

if they say $60, tell them to find a ditch. you can easily find $40 or way, Way, WAY less online. end of story.

even if you must suffer for a month, WAIT. Do NOT pay the crazy Microsoft direct prices. Peruse Deals.Woot!, the internet, eBay, etc.

Except for the pretty awesome family thing they had going (was something like 4 accounts for $80 - anyone remember this?) M$ has never had a good deal on MSLive. Ever.

vote-for1vote-against

Just did this as well, they just lowered my renewal from $60 to $35.99. Thank you very much for this find!

vote-for2vote-against

I paid $40 from the Xbox Dashboard for 12months about 2 months ago. Can I still do this?

vote-for2vote-against

Just what I was looking for! You can't beat $35.99 for a year! Props to whoever decided to share this deal!

vote-for4vote-against

I can't believe MS feels the need to raise their prices, while Sony online services continue to stay free. Excellent competitive marketing, assclowns.

vote-for5vote-against

Live is a far better service than free PSN is. That said, I wouldn't subscribe to XBL if it weren't for the fact that all my friends have 360s.

Anyway, if this works, it's a great deal. There was a deal about a month ago - I think it was on buy.com - with 12-month cards for $35. I haven't seen anything cheaper than $35 since the default price went up to $60.

vote-for5vote-against

@kteaton: Sony doesn't provide the "community" aspect of banning people who cheat, etc. Microsoft does. I got tired of playing games on PS3 because of the cheaters who manipulated the games because they're not skilled enough to play normally.

Playing MW2 on 360 did not have the abundance of cheaters as it did when I would play it on PS3 the next day.

I don't agree with the price raise though. Pissed me off that they went from $50 to $60, just a bunch of rich assclowns looking for more money.

vote-for3vote-against

@bigshayne: actually if your search, you'll learn that Playstation/Sony has recently decreed that they will lifetime ban all the cheaters. lord only knows if we'll see lots of legit work on their part, but they're claiming to kill the cheaters....

vote-for5vote-against

Getting removed from auto-pay is harder than getting into Harvard.

vote-for3vote-against

yeah no joke i just ended up reporting my debit cards as lost to get off auto pay

vote-for1vote-against

The idea of paying to play games against people on games you've already purchased rings as stupid today as it did when it was introduced. Companies respond to whatever limits customers tolerate, paying for gold membership just sends them the message you're willing to pay for something you should be getting free anyway.

Buy everything you can on the PC or PS3, sure gold will keep getting cheaper but that's the last death knell. Please stop feeding the dragon.

vote-for3vote-against

@zepallica: Absolutely, because we all know PC gamers have no cheater problems!!! IF you think PSN has cheaters try pc gaming- I gave up on that almost 10 years ago because cheaters were so rampant there was almost no way to enjoy a FPS- Servers (you know, the computers that actually make the connections, do player matching, and host the games online - cost money as do administrative overhead to watch and ban cheaters. Guess where that money comes from? Not game sales...

PC gamers often host their own servers- gee wonder how it's so easy to cheat then.
If you are ok with playing in a cheating environment fine, enjoy your PC and PSN. Sony has never had a good handle on managing net play and I doubt ever will. When you get tired of the cheaters and modders come to XBL where they at least pretend to care about your gaming experience.

Just got another year for $36

vote-for1vote-against

they gave me a choice between tacking on another year at 39.99 or pro-rating me a discount for the two months left on my account. They gave me a really generous rate of 9.99 a month, so I opted for, essentially, 10 months for 19 bucks.

That was weird, but positive.

vote-for0vote-against

Called them up (only took about 5 minutes total!!) to cancel initially. I'm currently paying for 2 accounts (monthly though) and I got him to cancel one, and then prorate them. Then he offered me the 35.99 deal.

Basically, went in to cancel two accounts, got suckered into doing the 35.99 deal. Still a great deal though!!

vote-for0vote-against

Great deal works takes no more than 5 mins. They just ask for your gamertag and last 4 digits of your creditcard. They might offer you the 39.99 deal for a year but then say you can find one for cheaper off of an online store then they'll reduce it to 34.99. Get it! mine was up for renewal next week too

vote-for1vote-against

@zepallica:

Why should a consumer expect game makers and MS to maintain and provide the hardware and software footprint necessary for multiplayer gaming on the scale that XBL offers for free? If you want that, go to the PC, where for the most part the multiplaying environment is free..... but you'll probably see your gaming experience spoiled due to the inconsistencies in server setup and cheating. I've done it on the PS3 too.... the environment isn't much better and I've personally found reliability to be iffy.

After suffering through that, the small cost for XBL doesn't seem to exorbitant.

vote-for1vote-against

Hmm. Got it for 40% off = $36.00
Decided not to squabble over $1, as I already got the one month for $1 deal to get to this point.

vote-for1vote-against

I was on a recurring monthly @ $9.99, called and told them I wanted to cancel, I could get a better deal online. He said what deal did you find online? I said I saw one for $35, he replied I can get you $35.99.

Simple, well worth the time it took.

Thanks for the info and savings!

vote-for1vote-against

My subscription just ran out...what a greatly timed deal!! Thank you OP...worked like a charm!!

vote-for1vote-against

Just called in and they did for me for $30... How good is that?

vote-for1vote-against

This works GREAT! 35.99 for a whole year. Customer service was friendly and helpful. Thanks for sharing!

vote-for1vote-against

Anyone try a non-renewal membership? Mine ends at the end of the month but I'm not an auto-renewal. Thanks.

vote-for3vote-against

Just got locked in at 35.99 for a year and wont be billed until next February. Guy on the phone told me the deal you get is based on your tenure with xbox. My account expired last week but I wasnt going to be billed until the beginning of march, so he credited me the 25 difference and changed the bill date to next year. Great find!

vote-for0vote-against

Worked perfect for me as well. Now if I could just get that FAMAS to shoot straight

vote-for1vote-against

Worked perfectly! Got the $35.99 deal with no issues at all. Thanks so much, 40% off is better than automatic renewal at $60. Very easy and well worth the 5 minute phone call.

vote-for1vote-against

anyone tried yet with a non-auto-renewal account?

vote-for1vote-against

Son of a..... I just tried this and all that happened was they canceled my auto-renew. They didn't ask why i wanted to cancel nor did they offer me any deals. I thought it was going to work and all of a sudden the woman just said "ok i've got that taken care of for you, your autorenew is canceled. here is your service request number have a good day."

Hopefully i can find a decent card deal online....

vote-for1vote-against

@giovannib: as long as your a bit patient, you should be okay. we seem to see at least 1 deal a week with a legit 12month card for $35-$42 or so. MUCH better than what MS tries to get you for.

vote-for1vote-against

@smtatertot13: Yes I'm aware of this. But Sony is known for not upholding what they say, and being part of Information Technology and working with computers and servers for the past 15 yrs, Sony is less than par.

I'll stick with Xbox anyway, I have my PS3, but I play Xbox more.... and First Strike map pack for COD: Black Ops is only on xbox lol.

vote-for1vote-against

@giovannib: Call back, sign back up, tell them you found a deal online for $34.99 see if they'll match that.

vote-for1vote-against

We just got an XBox for Christmas and the 30-day trial for XBox Gold was about to expire. I called today (3/4/11) and was offered $39.99 as a new auto-renewal account. They just added my cc to the account. He said to definitely call before it renews next year because we'd probably be offered an even better deal since the account would have more tenure.

So definitely worth the 5-minute phone call to save 33%.

vote-for1vote-against

My account was not a an auto renew account and it was actually expired for a day before i called in what they did was, have me buy 1 month of live for the 8.99, to reactivate my account again. then they upgraded me to gold for the pro rate of 35.99- 8.99 so i was charged 8.99 today on the phone then will be billed seperatly 27.99 next month. took a bit more time than others, because of this work around. also you need to be at your console or PC to buy the 1 month first. dont buy the 1 month unless told to do so though. another option you have have seen on your dasboards right now, is to renew from the dash for 42.99(i think) and you will get a free game in the mail, either halo reach, fable 3, and 2 other kinect games (dont recall) you wont see that game for 8-10 weeks though, and it just says "game disc" so im not sure if you will get the retail package or just the disc.

This worked for me and I haven't had an active Gold account in nearly a year (but I have purchased subscriptions intermittently since the original Xbox). Although the whole process seemed kind of roundabout it works just fine. You have to talk to an Xbox representative on the phone then they will tell you to get a one month subscription which they then convert to the 40% off 12 months subscription, and prorate the cost of the one month and count it towards the total of the year. Just make sure you have a credit card on your account.

I just got my accounts (2 children with separate accounts) reduced from $120 per year each to $35.99 per year each. I must admit that I was hesitant about calling due to the red-tape I expected with doing so instead of just going to Buy.com and paying $39.99 each, but I am glad I called. I waited less than a minute to speak to a representative (who was friendly and professional) and simply explained that I wanted to cancel our auto-pay month-to-month subscriptions due to a reduced price available online. I was then offered a matched deal to allow the representative to make the adjustment, at which point I asked if he could beat the price and after looking at our accounts, he offered a 40% discount ($35.99), and I gladly accepted. The decision was based in part if not wholly on how long the gamer tags had been in use and with uninterrupted service.

vote-for1vote-against

I asked what deals they had for my account and they gave me 2 years for $59.99

Lady said it was something she rarely saw.

vote-for0vote-against

We had a non auto renewal account and I called in and was offered another year for $35.99. We originally purchased an xbox live gold card for 13 months at a gas station down south which was about to expire and I came across this site and followed the instructions and it worked like a charm! Thank you, thank you, thank you! My son is a very happy camper as he has to pay for his live account with his allowance. Customer service was very pleasant and eager to help also. Definitely the cheapest route I could find on the internet or anywhere for that matter.

vote-for0vote-against

It works- I locked in a year just now at 32.99! (rather than the 59.99 MS wanted to charge me). :O)

vote-for1vote-against

dude you are a GOD....i dont know how old this post is but i just called and got 2 years at $35.99...sweeeeeeet....thank you for posting!!!!!!!!

vote-for1vote-against

Just got another year for $29.99 doing this. Thank you OP, you are my hero.

vote-for1vote-against

didn't work for me.... :(

just did this process and no offer for a discounted rate.

vote-for0vote-against

FYI: yes this is still working...

besides the young sap sucka asking if i was using my mama's card, he stated that if you find 1)it is for auto renew customers, 2)if you find something cheaper online then jus call back and they will try to match the price...

all in all thats fair enuf for me...
