Poor reviews? Where? Lack of games? Not at all.

I'm 37, use my Kinect every single day for some pretty heavy working out on Kinect Sports, Dance Central 2, Your Shape 1 and 2012. My son is in the Air Force and we use the Kinect video chat to keep in touch across the country for free.

Then talk about Hybrid Control Gaming...

Mass Effect 3 - Single Player. SO much easier to control your team members and get them using their powers by telling them what to do, then trying to use the controller.

Skyrim - 250 different voice commands, totally changes the way the game plays.

Ghost Recon - Just amazing using Kinect with it.

Try out some demos of some of the more popular games with it, you'll fall in love.

And Useless? FAR from useless. I use it to control videos on Netflix, Xfinity, Hulu, and more. "Xbox Pause", go get a beer, "Xbox, Play".

The hand gesturing to search for stuff, move panes, heck, I can do half of my prep and game launching stuff without touching a controller.

Sweet! I was just grumbling that I hadn't seen a Kinect deal in a while and BAM!... here it is, just in time for a big Happy Birthday to me!

Ghost Recon has Kinect support and is awesome... so don't say lack of games since its usage is getting better game by game....

I have one. My eight year-old daughter loves playing Kinect Adventures and Double-Fine Happy Action Theater. I haven't found as much application for it; I recently picked up Your Shape Fitness 2012, which provides a pretty good workout and is very good at tracking my motions.

Wow! I had to get one. Even in crappy condition, I've never seen used ones of these for less than $70.

Regarding the Kinect: I definately vouch for it. At first it can be a little tiring, and it makes you think "is it really worth it", but it definately is. I mean who hasnt dreamed of using your body to control a game. Its also good at getting your girlfriend in on playing games, so you dont have to be the bad boyfriend anymore who pays more attention to his xbox than her.

In for one. Doesn't come with Kinect Adventures, but that's a buck at gamestop

@codyhill06: Hooking up to a PC is something that developers have done to play around a bit... You won't really find any use in existing applications for it. I have the PC version of the Kinect (which has a "near mode" feature that allows you to be closer to it) on my computer, but I use it to play with as a programmer. It would be useless to most anyone who is not interested in programming. It also does take a ton of resources when on the PC, if your computer is not fast it will bring it to it's knees.

For the X-Box, I love the Kinect, and so do the kids.

I love my kinect sensor. Its kind of cool to just shout out commands and have it do what you say. My fiancee likes to use it for zumba and the various dancing games out there.

I agree, the first games that came out were lacking in the kinect usage, but all of the newer games are just now beginning to utilize the sensor.

I particularly enjoyed playing thorough Mass Effect 3 with the sensor. You could say commands to your squad to follow, and change weapons on the fly without having to bring up the selection menu. You could even steer the diologue using the voice controls, which kind of made the game a little more immersive.

This is a good buy, and if you're on the fence about getting one, I say do it. The games are only going to get better.

My roommates tell me how great it is to watch movies and Netflix with the Kinect, I just want to stop trying to find the remote any time I want to do anything.

Thanks for the link, OP.

eh it's a shame they seem to get poor reviews... anyone with personal experience?

@qkall: The site or the item, either way, I've played onthe kinect at friend's and family's houses and it is pretty cool technology. It is fun and moderately addicting. Good party fun too. The site, I've bought a bit through and it is reliable.

@qkall: Poor reviews come from;

Lack of games in general
Lack of anything good for anyone over 3 years of age
Lack of interest after the initial "coolness factor" fades in a week or less.

For a house without kids under 3 or maybe 4 years old, it's virtually worthless.

I love mine. I am thinking about getting one and an Xbox for my 78 year old dad. I think he would really enjoy it.

I don't own an xbox 360 but I've seen where people have hooked this thing up to a pc. I was wondering how difficult it is to add/do different functions on this thing while connected to a pc and if it's even worthy of being an alternative to a mouse and keyboard.

@nkull: I have limited programming knowledge and a decent computer (6gb ramm, 2 GTXs in sli, and I run Windows 7 on a SSD). That being said, I did some research on YouTube and found that it's still quite limited even with the recent sdk release. Leap Motion seems to be the upcoming rival to the kinect, so there's obviously some kind of market for this type of alternative. Guess that leaves me waiting for advancements.

Thanks for the insight though, I appreciate it.

@codyhill06: software made isnt open source as far as i know. You would have to dev it own your own...

Anyone get theirs yet? Mine has been marked as shipped since the 24th, but UPS says they've not even received it yet. UPs shows a USPS tracking code, which also shows that they don't have anything.

Shipping finally updated.

Never had an origin scan, but had a departure scan from Ontario, CA on the 30th, It showed up in Lexena, KS on the 3rd (4 days to go from California to Kansas? WTF). It still sits in Kansas. Meanwhile, another package I have coming via UPS. Ordered on the 31st, ready for pickup on the first, not picked up by UPS till the 2nd, wasn't scanned in at the regional sort facility till the 3rd, and is set to be delivered today (4th). Oh yeah, that package was supposed to be next day air.
