Not the best reader...not the best tablet. But at this price....a deal.

This looks like a refurb Pandigital Novel. Bought one for around this price new at Kohl's when they liquidated it a few Xmases ago.

The specs missing in the ad should give you a hint as to what's wrong with this tablet. Just because it's cheap doesn't mean I would get this.

The CPU on this is very slow, only ~800 MHz. Although RAM is 1 GB, there isn't a lot of space for apps. My device only allowed a few apps to install. Another tablet (enTourage eDGe with similar specs) allowed many more apps to install and run.

Internal storage is also very little, only ~2 GB. The Android version that Pandigital released was only 2.0 (most Android apps require at least ver 2.3).

My Novel failed to download Amazon apps that another Android tab It could also not play mp4 video.

Has anybody used it just as a Ereader? Thanks!

It looks like a tablet with potential, I'm in for 1.

If this is a WPDN it started life as a basic e-reader only, it is a slow Android device. I too got one for $70 14 months ago when the stock was blown out at Kohls. Restive touchscreen responds best with a stylus. Don't plan on viewing Flash video, playing Angry Birds or using the Android Market (now called Google Play). See http://www.slatedroid.com/forum/38-pandigital-novel-android-tablet-discussion/ the SlateDroid Forum for more info.

Bought one six months ago for under 70 bucks on Amazon. I was very happy for the price. E reader works the same as other lcd type screens. Don't plan on using it at the beach. I was able to install Amazon app market (I'm not sure the market referred to here is Amazon) and had access to a lot of functions, including pandora and iheartradio. Also converted ripped dvds to mp4 and watched movies. You wont get flash (like with ipad) but you can get apps the convert youtube to mp4. Those who found things slow probably didn't run it with an sd card. This is a must. It makes it faster, and helps apps run better.

Don't regret purchase at all, sturdy and useful for the price. With the limits I've mentioned, I'd still call it a great buy for the price.

@aplio: According to http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?InvtId=RR7T10WWH7 it only has 256Mb RAM, the 1Gb is its flash storage.

For $49.99 and $4.99 for shipping I think it's definately worth a try so I just bought one. I'm sure it will be fine for what I want.
I just want a bigger screen that my iPhone but I don't want the hassle of my laptop. Once I save up I will be going back to Apple.

I bought two of these for family members a little over a year ago. They are frustratingly slow. You have to swipe the screen repeatedly or push hard on the screen just to navigate around. Trust me, spend the extra money for a REAL tablet. These should be sold in the toy section of Kmart, and even then I would never purchase one again and put a child thru that kind of aggravation

I used these forums for my Cruz Reader. If I didn't have that, I'd get this.

SAVE YOUR MONEY. Or spend a little more on something that works well.

I picked up two of these around black friday last year as gifts. The gifts were actually returned to me due to the frustration they caused to the two giftees (they could not handle the terrible functionality and thought that I would enjoy them more!). Now both on them are lying around my office, unused since last year.

Specs-wise, it's on the same level as a Nook Color. A guy @ work bought his cheap from someone who hated it not long before I got my Nook. Just like the Nook, rooting it is a gamechanger. No, it's not a Playbook or an iPad, but they're both entirely useful devices. Rooting is for the patient, but produces nice results-generally.
If this is to be your first tablet, you could spend lots more and still not love 'em. Patience on your first is important, particularly if you're cheap like me :)

Horribly slow, no multi-touch, uses a special charger instead of a USB charger and it includes a horribly outdated version of Android. Even after hacking it with info from slatedroid its still not worth it in my opinion. There are better ereaders for not much more, there are better tablets you can hack for not much more. I never use mine.

I have a 2gb black model and I got mine off amazon for $59 last year and it is the absolute best $59 i've ever spent. I have plenty of books on the ereader, I can check my emails at home or at any other wi-fi spot, satelite radio app pics up a gazillion radio stations and I have pictures and music stored on a 8gb sd card wich extends it to 10gb. If you want a IPad spend your 600 bucks for one but this multimedia tablet is great for me and does all the basics and then some.
